Tablets with the best screens

The importance of a tablet's screen quality cannot be understated. The vast majority of your interactions with a given tablet takes place on its screen.

This year we've continued to see tablet screen quality jump by leaps and bounds, especially from the perspective of clarity. Expect tablet screens to at least maintain the current level of quality for the next year.

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9 looks best when displaying its highly contrasted UI.

Amazon Kindle Fire 8.9
It's not quite as sharp, and its colors aren't quite as accurate as the Nook HD+'s, but the Kindle Fire 8.9 makes up for those deficiencies with a glossy, vibrant screen that handles fingerprints and moisture better than that of any other tablet. Read the full review.

Barnes & Noble Nook HD
The Nook HD's 1,440x900-pixel-resolution screen makes movies, games, and the Web look sharper than on any other 7-inch tablet, even exceeding some larger screens when it comes to clarity. Just make sure you wash your hands before using, as it's very susceptible to moisture-induced moire smudges. Asus Transformer Infinity TF700
Still the brightest tablet screen yet and with a 1,920x1,200-pixel resolution, it's also one of the sharpest. If you regularly find yourself reading in harsh sunlight, this is the tablet you'll want. Read the full review.

Google Nexus 10
Though its colors are nicely saturated, the Nexus 10 doesn't hit the high mark set by the iPad when its comes to black level, contrast, and color accuracy. Still, the Nexus 10 has the highest resolution screen of any tablet yet, and in certain games like N.O.V.A. 3, it's even sharper than the fourth-generation iPad. Read the full review.

Apple iPad
The king stay the king -- at least for now. The fourth-generation iPad still has the best tablet screen, thanks to its low black level, high contrast, and precise color accuracy. One look at the screen and its superiority to the competition in nearly every category is readily apparent. The screen's impressiveness is also spurred by the fact that nearly every app made for the iPad runs at its native 2,048x1,536-pixel resolution.Read the full review.
