Being a cheapskate can get expensive. If you're anything like me, you're intimately acquainted with the phrase, "too good a deal to pass up." And so you end up spending a lot in order to save a lot. Oh, the cruel irony.
Today, I'm going help you get a lot without spending a lot. I've rounded up three pretty sweet deals, and the most you'll pay for any of them is two bits. (That's 25 cents for those of you not familiar with old-timey vernacular.)
1. 25-cent Android apps.
To help celebrate 25 billion (yes, billion) app downloads, Google Play is offering more than a dozen top-rated apps for 25 cents apiece.
Among the highlights: ad-free premium versions of Angry Birds Space and Draw Something; OfficeSuite Professional 6 (which normally sells for $14.99); Runtastic Pro; and, for the kiddos, The Cat in the Hat. (Oceanhouse Media's Dr. Seuss e-books are singularly awesome.)
2. Any song for a nickel.
It's impossible to buy anything for a nickel these days, right? Wrong: Amazon will give you an MP3 credit for just 5 cents when you tell the world (via Facebook) the name of your favorite song. Or any song. Or even just a string of words you like.
Simply type in, say, "Bladdee poo pah," then click Share & Claim. (Uncheck the Amazon MP3 newsletter offer if you don't want any extra inbox clutter.) And that's all there is to it; now you can start shopping for any song priced $1.29 or less, and you'll get it for just 5 cents. Admit: You're getting "Gangnam Style."
3. Defrag your drive for free.
On its own, Windows 7 does a reasonably good job defragmenting your hard drive. But why settle for reasonably good when you can get top-notch? Today only, Giveaway of the Day has Auslogics Disk Defrag Pro absolutely free. Regular price: $29.95.
This is one of the top-rated utilities of its kind, and it even has "special algorithms" for solid-state drives (SSD) (though conventional wisdom says you shouldn't defrag SSDs, so do some research before you use it on one). Disk Defrag Pro is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and 7.
So there you go! Three deals you can get with the change dug out of the couch cushions. Just cheapin' it real.
