Ringtones go to the dogs in Japan

Love dogs. Love the Japanese even more for their highly bizarre gizmos. No other country has consistently amused and amazed the world with its weird and wacked-out inventions. Try topping this latest idea: Ringtones audible only to dogs, from Tokyo-based interactive content provider Dwango (PDF in Japanese).

Lest you think it's an error in translation, Dwango describes the download service very clearly as Inu ni shika kikoenai chakushinon--which translates to "Ringtones only dogs can hear," according to CrunchGear. But since this is available specifically for DoCoMo's i-mode phones, only Japanese dogs need apply.

by JackBW June 26, 2008 8:41 PM PDT: How can you say weird and wacked-out so easily about a country? I lived in Japan for 15 years and they were very nice people. Great experience. I think the main reason the world was so far behind in cell phone technology was this knee-jerk reaction to any new invention from Japan. Playing with animals is fun which is the main reason we have pets. Calling your dog and watching him react would be fun which is obviously why people use it. If I wrote the comment, I would rather use it, let a dog hear it, watch his reaction and enjoy. Not talk like it's some weird thing when I have never tried it. HOW MANY CATS AND DOGS HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES?? TIED UP, HANGED, LET TO STARVE, PUT INTO TINY CAGES WITH ABOUT 6 OTHERS OF THEM, SQUASHED. AND THEN TO START SKINING THEM ALIVE?? AND WHAT ABOUT FROWING THE CAGES FROM HIGHT TRUCKS , HITING THE GROUND SHATERING THEIR TINY SMALL, LEGS . WHAT DID ANIMALS DO TO DESERVE THIS. TO GET BEATED WITH A METAL POLE TILL DEAD. AND THEN AFTER ALL THAT , AFTER GETTING THEIR SKINS, THEY COOK THEM, AND SELL THEM IN RESTAURANTS, AND SOMETIMES YOU ASK FOR CHICKEN SOUP?? WHAT IS REALY IN IT?? CHICKEN?? OR FRIED CAT??
