"White Goodness"
Pros: Gorgeous design, great apps, easy to use, FAST, and the webcam is wonderful
Cons: internet...and installation of iWork and transferring docs and pics from PC via iPod, internet window is big but content is small
Summary: Just 2 days ago my family got the this wonderful, widescreen piece of technology. I'm in love. For several months I have been scanning every review here on cnet as well as reading page by page, demo by demo, and opinions after opinions on the apple site making sure that the Mac was the way to go. We were coming from a 2000 Windows XP that was sufficient for all the years that we used it but seemed caveman-ish after discovering the world of Macs. I'm going to be a freshman in high school and I was needing to have more features than we were getting with our Windows Machine.
When we brought it home it was exactly as the Apple Site said: easy right out of the box. With the help of my dad we were able to install an Airport Extreme router as well as our printer and the personal info on the Mac. We were on the internet surfing in as little as 25 minutes. The trouble came when I downloaded iWork on my account...I came back from some errands and found that the material that I had successfully installed earlier could only be accessed from typing 'Pages' and 'Keynote' in the Finder when just earlier I could access them from the dock. Right now I don't know what to do so it will suffice for now. The second problem that I encountered was when I went to sign into MSN for my e-mail, I would skim over a link with my mouse and it would disappear. I would navigate away from the page and come back and it would be fine...i don't really know what the problem is but its aggravating. I sent a notification to apple but am waiting for a response. My third problem was that I had lost one of my USB's that I was going to transfer my files from the PC to the Mac and so I took Apple's advice by transferring my docs, photos, and music via the iPod that we had got free with the Mac (since my mom works with the school district) but when I hooked up my iPod to the Mac, it reformatted it to a Mac and now wouldn't recognize the docs and important pics that came from the PC. My big problem is that I forgot to press 'COPY FILES' rather than just moving my files onto the iPod, so I can't revert back to my PC.
Other than that I am extremely amazed and amused by the iMac's astounding looks and brilliant display as well as applications like Photo Booth. I cannot wait until the new Leopard OS X comes out to further enrich my apple experience.
