"The ARCLibrary Explained"
Pros: Small, light, spacious, REGULATION-FREE
Cons: The screen could at least have a WHITE backlight.
Summary: The reason that this player has the ARCLibrary which must be run manually to index the song names, etc. from the files on its disk, while other players get this data automatically, is because the Gmini XS200 doesn't use a library manager.
Other players which DO use library managers (like iTunes or MusicMatch) have the song titles, album names, and so on given to them by the manager at the time the songs are copied to the player. As I said before, the Gmini doesn't use a manager, so it has to scan the files manually.
Why doesn't it scan the files as soon as they're copied? Because it's operating in Hard Disk mode when it's plugged in to your computer. The player itself is off at this time. Why doesn't it scan for new files when the player is turned on? Because ths would slow down the process of turning on and getting ready to be used. It's better to have you tell it that there are new files to be indexed.
It's a tradeoff: manual indexing (though it's really only a couple of button clicks) versus not having the RIAA controlling your music. Easy choice for me.

Why do people keep buying players, which they cannot use as a storage device?! RIAA thinks, it will stop piracy??!! Hey, you must have forgotten about DVD-R! :P
