"Display is not good. Hell lot of drivers are needed to get any hardware work." on by chinmaya
Pros: Cheap, in compare to sony,hp and ibm in same configuration Laptop.
Cons: Always has some issues either with display and DVD drive and wireless.
Summary: I bought inspirion 1150 on october 2004 and within two months DVD rom started creating problems and battery in the pannel was loose. When I sent this laptop back to dell to get these issues fix. Only battery was fixed and laptop came with two new problem first wirelss card has stopped working and I found carck on the front of the pannel. I am now dealing with customer service. They did send me new wireless card but it is not working either. Intrestingly dell's warrenty department has charged me $20 then regular price as this laptop is having issues now ask them that it is their product Why should I pay if it is not working? But I did pay to extend the warrenty.
One thing that is good in Dell is their customer service. But I think this is because their products sucks. You will always find approximately 15 minutes of waiting time to reach to the representative. Their busy customer service itself is a proff of bad product line. There is no quality at all.
I will say never ever buy anything from Dell. I want to buy one more laptop that I have to decide from which company I should buy but definitly not Dell. -
"Great notebook for NON-GAMERS" on
Pros: Some of you don't get it. The purpose of most laptops are not for games. It's for business, which is why it's portable for travel. Anyone who play games on their laptops are wastes. The graphics are great and I love the 15" screen. It comes with every
Cons: No s-video. The fan gets a little loud when on. Would be great if it has 15.4 wide screen.

"Exceptional notebook" on
Pros: *Note: I have the P4 2.8GHz, 60GB Hard Drive, and 512 MB RAM option. 1) Speed: Pentium 4 chip speaks for itself. It uses the Northwood chip, which is faster than the Centrino & Celeron based chips (at the expense of heat & battery). 2) Battery:
Cons: 1) Bloat: Dell provides a lot of bloat with their hardware. While to some having trial software loaded all over the place can be beneficial, for me it was unnecessary. Dell should consider supporting advanced users who wish to do things themselves. Also,

"Seems like it's working until it shuts down without warning!" on by sarymary21
Pros: price, keyboard...not much else
Cons: OVERHEATING!!!
Summary: I bought this laptop in August 2004. I upgraded the processor to a 2.8ghz pentium 4. I paid about $1000. It is an ok computer if all you want to do is type papers on it. Anything more and it fails. My major problem with it was overheating. On a average day if I used it for an hour it would shut down without any notice at least ten times. This was so frustrating because it also takes about fifteen minutes to start up. I lost my entire thesis paper due to this problem. Other than that everything seems to work well enough although sometimes the USB ports would stop functioning for a while then come back on. I would never buy the base model again, it is worth the price to be rid of the problems associated with this computer.

"Defective Design Results In Overheating" on by OhioUser
Pros: None, None, None, None
Cons: Shuts down without warning due to overheating
Summary: Before purchasing this product, do yourself a favor. Go to Dell Forums. Go to the Inspiron-General Hardware Board. Search for "1150 Overheating." Then Goggle "Dell Overheating." If you buy a Dell product after these searches, you deserve what you get.
