"Has some problems"
Pros: Good fast small package
Cons: Has PCMCIA problems
Summary: Four of these units were bought to replace four aging inspiron 2600s. The D520 is fast, I was impressed in the heavy duty carry bag, which is not heavy at all and is comfortable to carry. All four of the inspiron 2600s have a verizon wireless broadband access V620 cards. The D520 locks up when the verizon d620 card is inserted. This is not your typical soft lock where you can ctrl-alt-del to end the task, this is hard lock - the laptop will not respond to anything. If the v620 is in the computer when it is started, the machine locks up before XP can start. Verizon balmes the dell laptop, dell blames the verizon card. As of right now a Dell service tech has come out to replace the mother board and that did not fix the problem - it was the exact same model board as what is in the laptop. The broadband wireless cards work just fine in the other machines with no problems at all. The four year extended warrenty was bought with these laptops, so the problem will get fixed one way or another. For the hardware that we got with these machines, they are kinda pricey. If your on a budget, maybe look at something else. When the machine was ran through microsofts critical updates, it was about 40 updates behind. Be sure to update this sytem when you get it hooked up. The CD burner software has a shortcut on the desktop, which is a nice touch.
