"Get the correct Video Drivers!"
Pros: Pleasant when the right Drivers are installed, and with 4gb of RAM with Windows XP pro! It works just fine for work.
Cons: Hinges getting tired of being shut with stuff obstructing them. Wait, that is my fault. I keep leaving pens laying on the keyboard.
Summary: I have had this computer for two years now. I Put 4GB of RAM into it, and it was still frustratingly slow. As of today, I finally realized it was the Graphics driver. I was wandering through the Dell support section (http://support.dell.com/) for this model, and low and behold, there is a graphics accelerator available as an optional install item for the Dell D620 with Intel 945GM graphics, right next to the nVidia driver, which I don't need. What? Did I read that correctly? I was/am getting full resolution. DriverAgent never said I had the wrong video driver, nor did "My Computer" hardware profiles. So I figured, "what the heck" might as well see if it installs. It did. It shows up as a new program in my installed programs list. Oh, and I resuscitated a frustrating laptop! Moving windows around the screen is not a ratchety affair anymore. Expanding the tree view of a folder in "Windows Explorer" does not gag the hardware. It is an unbelievable improvement in the computer, that is very subtle, yet dramatic. It is very difficult to describe the improvement, but when I rebooted, I REALLY noticed a difference.
Why they ship it without this driver, is beyond me! It makes what was frustrating all along (2 years) tolerable and reasonable!
I hope I make someones day. It made mine.
