"Too much pre-loaded junk"
Pros: fast, fast, fast!
Cons: too much pre-loaded items
Summary: For their higher-end system they should know better than to load it up with uneeded software that will slow it down. Spent an hour cleaning it up. My 5 year old 4100 booted quicker until I cleaned the xps400 up.

The unit did come with too much junk. But it was easy to setup and easy to use.

I think all the major computer companies (HP/Compaq, Gateway etc.) do this. I used to work tech support for a non-Dell company a few years back, and it was the same situation then. It seems they are all forced to do this because the competition does it. They load everything they can into the Window's startup so that the customer's first impression is good. Then customer's start to notice things are not as fast as they should be. It's sad that they put this stuff into the startup and later have their own techs tell customers to remove all the programs via MSCONFIG that they dont need to use. But, it's just the way they all do business these days. I just ordered my XPS 400 from QVC, and the first thing I plan on doing is fdisk mbr, fdisk (delete all partitions/recreate primary dos partition), format and install of Windows from my Win XP Pro cd. Customers of bundled computer systems should demand they get a Window's recovery cd too. I dont trust using a hard drive recovery partition to fix what a nasty virus can do.
