Product description from manufacturer
The ADV-M71 DVD Surround Receiver is the first DVD system in the world to feature "Dolby Virtual Speaker", the latest revolutionary surround format developed by Dolby Laboratories. "Dolby Virtual Speaker" is able to recreate a sound space ambiance equivalent to that of multi-channel surround sound from just 2 front speakers in a DVD system that has only 2 front channel power amps. Signals that are decoded into 5.1 channels are then processed by Virtual Speaker to produce surround sound with localization that is more accurate that conventional virtual surround systems. Since listeners can effectively enjoy surround sound from just the 2 front speakers, they save space by not needing to set up center or surround speakers or worry about how to place them in their particular listening room. In addition, the ADV-M71 features "Dolby Headphone" function, normally found only on DENON models in the highest price range, and the Hammer Head SHARC, the latest 32-bit floating point DSP which has been used in DENON's high-end AVC-A1SR surround amplifier where it earned high critical acclaim. These features enable the ADV-M71 to support the latest surround formats and ensure high accuracy in surround decoding.
