"Things to be aware of"
Pros: nice finishes, good usability
Cons: no HDI, new docking station (port replicator)
Summary: I've had my dv2000t for about a week now. I find that the finish takes a little getting used to. My fingers frequently slide/slip on the touch pad. Also, the remote control is a little difficult to access. You must push it in pretty deep to release the catch. Note that power button on remote will turn on and hibernate, it will not turn notebook off.
The product ships with Adobe Acrobat 6, and this is no big deal UNLESS you are an online student and the school provides pdf's in the new Acrobat 7.x format. My thinking here, why didn't HP elect to update the image used to install the software in the factory?
I'm also feeling a bit foolish for buying this basic version of MS Office when I could have gotten something opensource for much less. Otherwise this is a solid, solid machine.

After owning the HP Pavilion laptop for 3 months the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network card started working intermittently. Attempted to correct problem by disabling and re enabling. Then check with updated drivers, there were none. Then uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. I then called tech support and they had me do everything again and still didn't work correctly. The tech support wanted me to uninstall and reinstall the operating system (windows XP ME) which at that point I said forget it. If they won't take in the computer and fix the hardware I'm wasn't going to spend hours to reinstall the operating system and all the software already installed before they would let me send it back to get it fixed.

Thanks for the tip on getting the remote back out of the Express card slot! This notebook works for me (bigger and heavier than my last one, but less expensive, too). The battery life IS low ( I have the AMD opion - dv2116wm), but the keyboard layout is handy for mainframe terminal emulation).

The remote control's power button does whatever you set your laptop's power button to do; so it can either turn off, hibernate, or stand by. If I might add, I personally think the remote control is the best thing about the HP line of laptops!
