"overheating issues"
Pros: Great performance when running
Cons: Laptop overheats
Summary: After owning the laptop for 7 months, we have had numerous problems with it shutting down after getting very hot. On a flat surface, it shuts down. Because the cpu fans are located on the bottom of the laptop, the air gets trapped even on flat surfaces. You will need to angle the laptop off of a flat surface in the air or buy a laptop cooling system for the bottom side at Best Buy. Oh, the laptop cooling system stopped running after 30 days. Make sure you get a warranty for replacement. Don't bother with HP service, it sucks big time. They want you to send it in without knowing what the problem is. Many people are experiencing the same issues but they haven't figured it out. Warning buyer beware!!!

I totally agree with Savagefamily's review and furthermore woud not recommend anyone to go for the HP DV9000 series unless they have "money to burn" just like their laptops. Overheating issues, and in just 3 years, my motherboard conked off. Nothing came up on the screen and just went dead while the control panel on the base pad still was lit up. A chill mat did help a little but it eventually died on me. It is out of warranty and one of the many cons is that the plug-in pin into the computer (of the chord) is just weak unlike an IBM's. Any pressure and the pin goes kaput ! The left side hinge of the screen just broke as a result of constant heating and the plastic just got weak due to exposure to extreme temperatures. The lap singes if it is blockng the outlets duing use.
I had a good run with this laptop whle it lasted and I really loved it except for its weight (extremely heavy) and heating issues. cant afford to fix it and just went ahead and brought a SonyViao. -
This is an awesome machine, It works the best till it works , but HP built it bad, heating problem, burns away your mother board.have it replaced twice, my laptop still in service center past 5 months, still they don't have a replacement part. Irresponsible support guys, they simply try to skip you and wont even care to report the problem to respective people. my Product Number :RL015AV, Serial Number :CNF71136PX. its still having care pack, Case ID: 2605291446. the case is still open. Thy wont replace me the laptop with a new one and wont repair the laptop, seems like they are waiting for the warranty to wear out and return me back the faulty laptop as it is. Do not buy laptops from HP, they are only good with printers, very bad making laptops.

Sammmmeee problems. Mine got so hot that it melted the power cord metal piece that goes into the laptop and I had to buy a new one cause the warranty wouldn't cover it.

I had a faulty fan in my dv9000 when I received it. HP sent me a return label and box. I did not even have to pay to send it in. HP took care of it quickly. I could track the work in progress too. I was very impressed with their service. However the call center is in India and these dudes cant speak English. You are forced to be on the phone with them longer than necessary due to the language barrier. Oh yeah since my computer was getting overly hot they tried to sell me a laptop cooling system for $30. LOL
I had to tell them no 5 times. I mean why would I by anything new for a faulty computer? I do not like the way the fan is situated because you cant actually use the computer while it being on your lap or you will cover the vents. The computer is kind of loud sometimes. Vista is pretty but it still pisses me off with the little glitches. All and all I love my laptop and do not regret my purchase at all. I would have liked to have the money to purchase a Mac Book Pro but this will do. -
I bought my laptop back in April but didn't really get a chance to fully use it until the last couple of months (i relocated for work and am always on travel). I noticed that everytime I ran streaming video for more than a few minutes, my laptop would shutdown. I'm guessing its an overheating issue. I haven't called HP yet, cuz i don't want to deal with being put on hold forever and then speaking to someone who has no real answers. any help would be appreciated.

I have had the same issue of the PC locking up, and then when I reboot it it power cycles itself several times and does not come back up. HP service is the worst. I have been on the phone with the call center in India for a total of 16 hours and had the PC serviced twice. Sending it in for the third time today. They wont replace the PC, they just keep asking me to send it in. All they do when I send it in is re-seat the memory, flash the bios and then call it fixed. I can do that myself, it does not help. One of the little rubber pads at the bottom of the screen was missing when I bought it, and they have not fixed that in the two times it was in for service. HP support sucks! do not buy HP products if you expect to need any kind of support.
