"Major Monitor Issues"
Pros: Beautiful laptop, fast, high res screen
Cons: Monitor & graphics card crashed multiple times, heavy and hot
Summary: I first reviewed this laptop several months ago and praised its features. Now I am almost regretting buying it. I have sent the laptop into HP twice for the exact same reason. They fixed it the first time, sent it back and within one hour I had the same exact problem: the monitor stopped working, would boot with vertical lines on the screen or I'd get the blue screen of death. They replaced the system board the first time, now they are replacing the SB and the screen. Yea the HP total care package covered the costs, but I have been without work for over two weeks. I believe they have a design flaw: the mother board/graphics card heating up. You have to raise it off of any surface or the thing heats up, not warm but hot. I would seriously read all the reviews on this thing and get the total care service package as you dont want to pay for problems out of pocket. I am not the kind of person who expects perfection out of technology, but 2 fixes, $2,500.00, lots of lost work and others saying they have the same problem - I'll let you figure it out.

The ZD7000 I purchased has been troublesome to say the least. It has burned out twice in less than three years. Never has it gone a full year and we missed the last chance to continue the warranty but after filing a complaint with the BBB HP called and offered to repair it once for free. That means we must unload it before it costs us more headaches. HP should recall this product and make it right. No product should fail annually and be subject to consumer expense unless you pay annual warranty fees. Thats a ripoff if I ever heard of one.

I bought a ZD7280us for U$S 3000 in August 2004 in the United States. In August 2006 I sent the laptop to HP local Service Center in Argentina because of the black display problem.
The Service Center says they cannot diagnise it or fix it because they don't have a systemboard of this type to replace it, because they dont sell this model in my country.
I have read tons of posts of people with the same problem, which appears to be a deffective component or design from HP.
HP is suposed to be a global company, they should provide repair and/or replacemnent worldwide (at least where they have operations). The rep said they can only offer me to buy a new laptop with a 10% discount what is outragious to me. Does anybody has international experience with this black screen problem? -
Had the same problem with the video. Third time in four months...unacceptable! HP support is not helpful. Finally got to talk to a case manager and he was very rude and not helpful. We want a replacement laptop at this point and we're not getting anywhere. HP has a SERIOUS problem with this model. Don't buy it!
