"A desktop that moves between power outlets."
Pros: A portable desktop system...
Cons: ...with no battery life.
Summary: This is a desktop computer squeezed into a notebook.
A 10lb, fire-breathing waffle-iron of a notebook!
Seriously folks, this is NOT a machine you buy if ease-of-transport or battery life are priorities.
What you get is a P4HT at 3.2GHz, no "Centrino" no "Celeron" just a put, Hyper-threaded Pentium 4 and a desktop chipset.
This machine has four-USB2.0 ports, a mini-Firewire connection, 802.11g WiFi and harmon/kardon speakers that put some desktop speakers to shame. Built in multi-card reader, 17" WSXGA (1680x1050) screen...getting the idea?
I bought this because I edit video and I travel. Note the order of those: I EDIT VIDEO... and I travel. I'm always close to a power outlet and I do processor intensive work.
These days, there are a lot of other options for CPU's. I hear the new mobile Intel chips are just as fast as the Pentium 4HT's but consume about 1/4 of the power so battery life is much longer.
That's my only caveat - this is a beast of a notebook with short battery life.
On the plus: you won't miss your desktop computer. This has a full size keyboard with numeric keypad and a flawless screen.
