"Nice laptop for not a lot of cash"
Pros: Brightview widescreen is great, Harman Kardon speakers are some of the best I heard, Media Card reader and built in WiFi are excellent as well.
Cons: Battery life (is it ever good enough?), a little on the heavy side.
Summary: I found a deal on this HP at Circuit City for less than $850 in January. We needed a second computer in our house, and didn't have the desire or room for another desktop. So far this one has been great. It is more of a desktop replacement, so we don't have to lug it around a lot, thankfully. I looked at a lot of laptops before deciding on this one. The brightview screen is great, the speakers are some of the best I could find on a laptop in this price range, and the quality seemed to be as good as any of the other players. (Toshiba, Sony, Gateway)
Ok, I do have a few gripes: I do wish that HP would bundle the Microsoft Office Suite with their computers. An extra couple hundred bucks is ridiculous for software that everyone needs to have. Also, the standard battery is only OK. It will play a full 2 hour DVD movie, but not much more than that on a plane ride. So far, customer service has been OK- only one small glitch with an update that downloaded automatically from HP. Email from HP was prompt and reasonably helpful.
Overall a thumbs up. I couldn't find anything in this price category (after rebates etc.) that could compare with the features.
