"No. Put it Back."
Pros: Fresh out of the box, IT's GREAT!
Cons: The more time you spend with it, the more you HATE!
Summary: First let me say I got wind of zvue late in the game... they're already coming out with something better... supposedly.
Anyway, I had trouble with everything... I installed the software on two of my computers - nada. The zorg ware that comes with it never recognized when the zvue was connected. I didn't care since windows shows it as a mass storage device, and I could easily drag and drop files as needed. The zflicks software they give you for converting video's to the mp4 format did not work. I tried converting three video's... a couple of t.v. shows I recorded. 2 were pretty small files to begin with... and I was pleased to see that when zflicks finisehd encoding them for play on the zvue.. the files had been cut in half!! A-HA! I was impressed... but the feeling faded quickly cuz they still wouldn't play.
I found it annoying that whenever there was a problem with file playback... I would just get a weird error message telling me to go visit the zvue website - but the website doesn't go too far beyond the basics as far as support. They do provide a 1-800 number with the product and ask you to call... but who wants to spend that much time trying to figure out how to work a $99.00 CHUNKY handheld that runs on batteries? For the time I've spent trying to give this thing the benefit of the doubt... I would rather have just spent another 150 and got something smaller, rechargeable, and with onboard memory.
I've had this thing exactly 36 hrs, and dinked around with it for about 10 hours already... b/c I was sure it had to work... I mean, it was so COOL when I took it out of the box that I happily pardoned the size of the gadget b/c I expected so much from it... BAH!
They do give you an AC adapter to use for power... so you don't use up all your battery juice on all the technical drama you're in store for. I just don't want it. I'm disappointed too b/c I really thought it was gonna be a cool gadget.
I paid $99.00 for mine at Walmart... the cost of the thing, plus the cost of batteries to power it, plus the cost of storage... (the 128mb sd card that comes with it is laughable - you will need more storage) you'll wind up spending as much as you would had you purchased something of better quality and more trusted.
