Chinese manufacturer Amoi is breaking into the North American market with a networkable DVD player. The NDP9200 appears to be a kissing cousin of Gateway's recent highly rated model, with many of the same features, plus the ability to play MPEG-4/DivX video.

The LC-22SV6U is the smallest of Sharp's latest wide-screen LCD televisions. This 22-incher can handle progressive-scan DVD, and the upcoming 30- and 37-inch versions will add HDTV capability and higher resolution. Though less expensive than its predecessors and the other models in Sharp's new lineup, the LC-22SV6U still costs more than twice as much as 20-inch non-wide-screen sets.

Panasonic adds another combination DVR/DVD recorder to its DIGA product line. Look for many of the basic features from the earlier DMR-HS2. While the companion DMR-E60 has a smaller (60GB) hard drive and costs $100 less, it includes dedicated SD-card and PCMCIA slots for loading digital photos and a FireWire port for digital camcorders, none of which is found on the E80.

The successor to the Editors' Choice PT-42PD3-P, this model adds a built-in NTSC (non-HD) TV tuner and an HDCP-enabled DVI input. It has to downconvert incoming 720p and 1080i images so that they conform to its 852x480-pixel resolution, however. A $4,500 37-inch version, the TH-37PA20U, will follow later this summer.

While a step down from RCA's top-of-the-line Scenium series, the HD56W41 is nevertheless a feature-packed TV at a competitive price. Notable features include a built-in ATSC high-definition tuner, copy-protection-friendly DVI and FireWire inputs, an Ethernet port, and a Web browser. The similarly configured 52-inch HD52W41 is available for $300 less.

This box combines a DirecTV-satellite and high-definition receiver in one unit; it arrives just in time for viewers to begin enjoying the satcaster's recently expanded lineup of HDTV programming. It outputs just about every major standard and HD resolution, and it even upconverts standard programming to 480p or 1080i. Other niceties include an optical digital-audio output and an HDCP-enabled DVI connection, in addition to the standard component-video output.
