"Comcast has been reliable for me"

by flaoriginal on October 20, 2009

Pros: Their package deals do give you more bang for the buck
The internet service is faster than DSL
HD on my TV looked much, much better with Comcast than DirecTV.

Cons: Price -- no matter how you slice it -- the average price for basic digital cable with HD (and DVR), internet (and maybe phone with specials) come out to $100 a month plus tax.

Summary: I used to have DirecTV and it drove me nuts that the picture went out every time we had our normal tropical rain downpours in Florida. I switched to Comcast and dropped the DSL in favor of their special on the Double Play (Internet and tv). The price was right and I only experienced one television outage in the year I have had the service. The internet on the other hand has been out about 5-8 times for various time periods -- the worst being about 24 hours. The one benefit over DSL is the much faster download speeds.

I like the On Demand service as well with Comcast. They have free movies and some TV shows so if I forget to set the DVR, I can still catch up on my favorite shows. Whenever there is nothing in the TV listings I want to watch, I can usually find something in the On Demand selections.

One benefit which I did not expect is much higher quality HD viewing with Comcast versus DirectTV. I was amazed there was that much difference. Until I saw the first HD program on Comcast, I hadn't been very impressed with HD.

Recently, my initial promo deal ran out and I called Comcast lamenting that I would have to switch to a combination of AT&T DSL and phone service with the most basic of cable options. I even contemplated putting up an outdoor antenna to save more money. They gave me a very good deal on the triple play and included HD DVR and HBO for free for the entire promotional period. They worked with me instead of losing me as a customer. I am happy with the deal I got and pleased I don't need to go through the hassle of switching services -- which would have been less money but slower speed. For a twenty to thirty dollar savings per month, for six months it just wouldn't have been worth it.

Amazingly, despite what some have experienced, my experiences with Comcast customer service have all been very good since I signed up for the service. The biggest problems I had were at the beginning of the service when the technician brought an HD box instead of an HD/DVR. Otherwise I have been pleased.
