"titanium plate LCD lid build quality" on by Toshiaki

Pros: bulletproof to two 9mm bullets

Cons: -none- none on my part

Summary: this little review is on the thinkpad's LCD lid quality ONLY.
the protection of the titanium plating on the back of the thinkpad's lid is a first. i am very convinced that it is the best screen protection any notebook can have. my cousin is in the US military and has been using this thinkpad in iraq ever since he was deployed there. the back of his screen, the titanium side, was shot twice by a 9mm pistol from enemy fire. concerned as he was, he attempted to turn on his computer back at basecamp and surpisingly the computer fired up normally and loaded windows. through what he says, the screen was slightly warped and there was a cluster of stuck and dead pixels. i am amazed that the screen even functions let alone the backlight even functioning. i am convinced that there is no other "test" that can beat this one. i rate this thinkpad 10/10 only based on the screen protection. i do not own this thinkpad so i cannot speak for any other part of the notebook other than the screen "test" ironically played upon my cousin fighting in the middle east.

"Finally Thinkpads come with mainstream features." on by b0nes

Pros: Widescreen, Firewire, Gigabit Ethernet, EVDO modem, Colors other than black

Cons: Crappy Intel GMA graphics, although I thought they had another model with an ATI X600

Summary: Getting Lenovo to take over production was IBM's best move yet. Don't get me wrong, I love my Tankpad, but I always wished I could get more mainstream features on it, and it looks like Lenovo is a forward thinking company. I own 2 Thinkpads, the T43, and a T22, and this will be my 3rd. Looks like Lenovo hit it on the head. Business users will love the EVDO modem, although I hope you get to choose your provider. Not a huge fan of the silver lid, but if it is Titanium, it will protect the screen better. Now just get rid of the Intel GMa and use atleast an X300 in it and you will have a real winner.

"Best laptop you can get" on by zConsultant

Pros: Powerful, full featured, thin and light

Cons: Wish it can go lighter

Summary: As a traveling consultant, I need a light weight notebook to make travel easier. But I also need the laptop to run monster server applications like Oracle, DB2 and Websphere. This is the best I can get. And yes there are lighter ones that goes to 2.7lb, but can accomadate only 1GB memory and no optical drive. This one has 2GB max and a DVD burner. Plus this one has SATA HD which is really important for speed up applications, especially video capturing. I owned Dell Latitude 610, 600, Inspiron 1300, thinkpad A ... Thinkpad is by far my preference. It is more expensive than Dell, but definitely better designed. My company laptop Dell 600 and now 610 consistantly burn my left hand because some genius designers at Dell put the hard drive right under your left palm. And the 610 weighs tons! This new thinkpad squeezes all the features (even a wide screen and card reader) in a small package and its battery life is outstanding. Now the flexible ultra bay adapter ($48) enable me to add a Linux and a Solaries operating system on seperate drive and boot whatever I want depending on my client. For Dell 610 you have to buy the drive from them (which means rediculous price). They don't sell you the caddy although you can buy the caddy from the black market. Enven with a Dell cady you have to screw and unscrew the drive everytime you change it.

Oh, the keyboard lighting which illuminate the keyboard on the airplane when it is dark comes in really handy in long haul flight.

"good design, crappy screen" on by quesoso

Pros: Comfortable keyboard, great performance, shock mounted hard drive, fingerprint reader

    Cons: Crappy screen

Summary: Great computer with great design features such as the shock mounted hard drive, spill-proof keyboard, and metal hinges. The only thing that sucks big time about this laptop is the screen - it's widescreen, but it's not very bright. It's nearly impossible to see anything on the screen if you're outdoors in the shade, and even if you're indoors you'll wish that you could turn up the brightness up a couple notches.

The battery life is good - I get 3 hours with the extended battery that juts out.

"Another Thinkpad winner!" on by ruykava

Pros: titanium lid. great design and features, widescreen, keyboard

Cons: rather expensive (but expect a good discount from online stores soon)

Summary: the usual thinkpad keyboard quality is there: the best in the word: bar none.

both trackpoint and touchpad, too: i use both together depending on where my fingers are, and save a huge amount of time.

EVDO option, too, though i don't use it.

it's a SOLID piece of kit: all that old-fashioned IBM hewn-from-a-rock feel is intact.

and wait, it DOES have dual-layer DVD burning, unlike what CNET says...

i simply can't understand why this 7.5 rated laptop doesn't get a Editors Choice whereas an Apple G4 with 7.3 does, lol!
