"Good touch screen universal remote"
Pros: Very strong IR signal, color touch screen, very versatile and will control anything.
Cons: Bulky, sometimes slow and freezes, technically advanced user interface, Touch screen buttons may not be for everyone.
Summary: This is the size of a large PDA sized remote with a touch screen. This is an advanced remote not for the techie faint of heart. The computer interface is much like MS access database software but easier. I was lucky and had my brothers set up files to modify. Setting this up from scratch would take some time although I am sure there are templates in the software. You cannot fit everything on one page so you must make different pages for different components. It takes some thought to setup screens and button configurations that work best for daily use. You design your own GUI which may not be something some people wish to do so it does take some thought and tinkering. It has many manufacturere IR code sets and learns IR codes easily. I have a main page with system on and off that turns on the most common equipment and allows me to go to standard equipment input configurations for watching DVDs, Cable, Xbox, listening to CDs and streaming itunes from my laptop. I have shared component and HDMI inputs and had to write a script to swap these with various equipment. The infrared strength is far superior to the standard cable remotes so aiming is not important with this remote. There is a tutorial you can set up on the remote for guests not familiar with your remote setup. Once set up, you never need other remotes and it works quite well. Although the universal remote with the AS 83000HD box works great for cable and basic on/off and volume functions, you really can?t do scripting, advanced setup, inputs and properties changes on this.
Although complex it is an open slate for you to build on and there really is not much out there that comes close to this remote. This is kinda bulky and the touch screen has wow appeal but may not be for everyone.
