Google is out with a preview of a service called "Friend Connect," which lets people add social-networking features to any Web site. Rafe Needleman of CNET's Webware blog live-blogged the announcement Monday morning, and he joins Leslie Katz to explain exactly what Friend Connect is and how it compares with similar services launched last week by Facebook and MySpace.com.

Windows XP's latest update has thrown some users for a loop. After moving to Windows XP Service Pack 3, some AMD-based systems are getting stuck in an endless reboot cycle. Microsoft says it's investigating the problem.

And how's this for a new way to recycle CO2 waste? A company called Carbon Sciences announced today that it plans to take carbon dioxide emissions and transform them into calcium carbonate used in paper production.
