"Superb notebook for serious use"
Pros: Very fast, very well built, great screen, real value for money
Cons: Sound card not quite loud enough, runs a bit hot
Summary: I bought my MX last November and have used it exclusively as both my desktop and travel machine. I travel constantly so it has taken a lot of abuse with no problem. Mine is configured with 2 gigs of RAM, a 2 gig clock speed, and a 60 meg 7200 RPM hard drive. (They now offer a larger hard drive.) The machine is rock solid, screaming fast, really well designed (great fit and finish), excellent keyboard, great screen, has long battery life -- in short, I love it.
My only complaint is that the built in amplifier is a bit too quiet. It's fine in a hotel room, but when watching a DVD on an airplane it's not quite loud enough. I've bought a small external headphone amplifier which I take on my trips. But otherwise the sound is crisp and undistorted so it's a pretty small issue.
Also, with the RAM and clock speed that I chose if you leave the screen at full brightness it gets a bit too hot to put directly on your lap. When travelling I tend to crank the screen brightness down a bit, and this seems to help the machine run cooler. (Or perhaps I'm just imagining that.) The screen is MUCH brighter than my previous Dell, so even after turning it down it's still very clear.
Built in wireless is excellent, very strong receiption. ATI graphics card is great for DVDs and business applications; I don't play games. What else can I say? The folks at PortableOne gave me good service and support for the few glitches which have come up. I guess the only downside of buying this machine is that you're dependent on them to support it, rather than a big outfit like Dell or Lenovo. But the machine is a much better price/performance/quality combination than I could find elsewhere at the time I shopped. So far, so good.
