A true photo printer--as opposed to a printer that can print photos--uses more than just the basic four primaries--cyan, yellow, magenta, and black--to deliver a broader range of tones than CMYK can provide. They vary in how many primaries and which hues they use: some add red and green to the mix, others red and blue, still others multiple shades of gray.
