"1 year user of Sager 9860 (its Daddy ;)"
Pros: Great and Wide Screen, Increadible Cooling System, Room to Grow & even replace Graphix Card, Full Keyboard, Programmable keys and additional Fn Key, Flawless Performance, Very Powerful Laptop
Cons: Very Large, Heavy, Short life Battery, Cheap Case included, Noticeble Fan Noise
Summary: This computer is not for portability. This "laptop" is clearly designed and advertised as a "desktop replacement." If you are User that wants the power of a Desktop in your Notebook and are not a frequent portable user -- this is the Rig for YOU!!! Simply put, Sager took the high performance to the laptop world.
The First thing I noticed after the size :o), was the beautiful wide-screen. It has a sort of wet look to it and has a visual performance that even some Plasma TVs are jealous of. The next thing is the full size keyboard. Which has a full numeric key-pad which I really missed on my prior notebook. They also included additional front buttons for controlling DVD's or Music CDs and another key that is labelled Fn. The Fn key is similar to the keys we find on scientific calculators. It works as a shift button and on your keybord are keys with certain other commands such as volume, brightess of screen and many others. I love this ability to quickly change settings. Also mine has an increadible speaker system that even has its own seperate sub-woofer. It won't wake the neighbors, but the clarity is so good it sounds like it is loud from a distance.
Another impressive feature is how many ports of usb, fire wire, hdvi, infrared and bluetooth. This bad boy has all the bells and whistles of the top of the line desktop and the power to match. In addition nothing, and I mean nothing feels cheap or made to be disposable. Like a high end desktop with a Lian Li case, this is made to last. And last it may, since the components are made in such a way it is feasible to open her up and replace the graphix card that is..., yes!!! Seperate from the MOTHERBOARD!!! HOORAY! (I don't know if mine or this laptop has had any replacement cards made however, so please do your research).
Also, what holds all the Lappys back from touching this beast is "HEAT." I mean heat Literally! Today with high-end CPU's and GPU's, computers are having much difficulty with getting rid of all the heat. And heat also attacks the stability of your computer. So, take top of line components and cram them into a envelope and expect there to be no problems is ridiculous. This is why this "Desktop Replacemnt" is not a highly portable "Laptop." To Sager's credit they attack the heat issue well enough to have all the high-end CPU you want. In fact my laptop takes about 5 minutes before a single fan even turns on. That is a huge heat-sink in there and on the side are numerous copper fins :o) hmmmmmm, Copper!
And Finally, I researched for over three months before choosing this notebook. In addition the price was just a bit over 2000. I will be honest, only out of my pride over my notebook did I write this review after seeing so many negatives????? There are so many reviews and yet I have never met anyone yet who has a SAGER. I just find it hard to believe that many of these reviews were from actual purchasers and/or users of these Laptops. So, please, do your research and see if this is the right notebook for you
I know it has for me.
