"Much Better than Sharp Aquos LCD 45""
Pros: Sharp, good contrast
Cons: austere cosmetically
Summary: I was so disappointed with the Sharp Aquos 45" inch TV. It looked great in the store, but so does everything when tuned to an HD channel. At home, tuned to a regular broadcast channel, it was unwatchable. Images and type were jagged and blurry to the point of distraction, and lots of artifact with moving images, no matter how I set the levels.
So, I went back to the store for an exchange. This time, I had the sales guy change all the TVs on display to a regular broadcast channel. This is our reality until more channels are broadcast in HD.
Plasmas probably won by a hair when it came to reduced jaggedness and better resolution with regular broadcast, but I had other reasons for going with LCD. I had a plasma in the past and never liked the glare and reflection you get from other light sources (windows) in the room. You don't get this with LCD. I also didn't like how sound and picture were occasionally out of sync with DVDs, giving the film an occasional Kung Fu movie effect. I understand this is fairly common with plasmas.
Among the LCDs in the store, this Sony was cleary the best. Don't get me wrong, traditional broadcast still doesn't look awe in either plasma or LCD, but it's definitely easy enough on the eyes with this Sony LCD.
