"Great value, performance and portability"
Pros: Solid build, great usability and security features, integrated DVD burner
Cons: Narrow viewing angles, no discrete GPU, average battery life
Summary: The U205 is a great travelling companion and workhorse unit. At 3.8 lbs, there are lighter notebooks around, but few that provide the performance of the U205 at its pricepoint.
Spill-resistant keyboard, air-cushioned hard disk with drop-sensors and magnesium alloy chassis make this a tough little machine. Fingerprint scanner is great and can act as a scroll wheel. Screen is crisp with minimal glare for a glossy unit (it uses a rippled coating to diffuse reflections).
It's a pity there is no extended battery option. I achieved 4h 20m in Reader mode and 2h 19m in CPU burn mode, average ~3.5 h with normal use. Also, the keyboard sags in the middle, but is still comfortable and responsive.
There are notebooks in the same class that offer discrete graphics (Dell XPS M1210, Sony VAIO SZ and C25), but for non-gamers, the Toshiba U205 is a compelling option that's tough to beat.
