"Not good for State Filings"
Pros: Never had problem with Federal side
Cons: Still does not take into account Government Retiree 1099-R which are non-state taxable
Summary: I'll use Alabama for example; I receive a Military retirement 1099-R; which, in the State of Alabama is non-taxable. No matter how I tried it, Taxcut will not process this 1099-R correctly--during the 2007 tax year, I tried several methods to enter the data. At worst, I owed the State $164; at best, the State owed me $50. In the end, I pulled down the State forms and completed them manually--earned a $500 plus refund. This has been an ongoing problem since at least 2003, and request for help has fallen on deaf ears at Taxcut. I have used Taxcut since the program came on 2 floppy disks (1995?), if I find Turbo Tax can process my state forms correctly for 2008, I'll switch to them; otherwise, I'll save my money and only buy the Federal.
