Product summary

The goodThe good: Intuit QuickBooks Premier 2009 offers improved online banking tools; Live Community user-assisted help; Company Snapshot screen for quick business overview; a free Web site for one year; support for international payments and most world currencies; better client data-review tools for accountants.

The badThe bad: QuickBooks Premier 2009 suffers some glitches with online banking setup; Live Community not as responsive as it should be; no free support for setup issues; sluggish performance on Vista PCs with 1GB of RAM.

The bottom lineThe bottom line: Intuit QuickBooks Premier 2009 keeps the program's well-designed, intuitive interface, while adding a few new features. It's a worthy upgrade for people serious about online banking, and it remains the best accounting program for small business owners. However, Intuit should be more generous with customer support, particularly for setup issues.

Very good for the beginner

Pros: great tutorials!! good for the beginner, many options even for the free version, easy looking interface

Cons: users feedback suggest its very slow Just like any shareware there are advertisements. however; to get people introduced to the product without loosing money I think this is a little better marketing then a 'trial offer'

Review: many users feedback suggest its very slow (do they expect to run a business on promotion freeware from a company selling its produts?) there are better freeware programs out there to do this. I have not tried migrating from other software to quickbooks.

It's their primary product, and it's clunkier than...

Pros: For certain businesses, I suppose this is a solid small-business accounting platform.

Cons: Can't merge forms with Microsoft Word or Excel to create invoices, estimates or customer-facing documents. Can't sync with salesforce.com.

Validation Code Annoying

Pros: Good, basic accounting software

Cons: Except: Does not accommodate mileage expenses. Requires phone call to Intuit every time you re-install to obtain a validation code. And you have to listen commercials to get the code.

Review: The reason given for requiring a validation code was lame - so that if you lost the install disk, you would be protected. Huh? To the customer it's annoying. This should be a simple, secure database program with everything a startup business needs. So why no mileage expense. What business out there doesn't have mileage expense? Intuit has added too many "hooks" that it make the sw so complex and prone to errors that require calling Tech Support.

Some frustrating features

Pros: I like the ease of setting up customers and invoices.

Cons: I've been trying to set up my bank account register in the program (not online banking, just my own records) and have a big question that isn't addressed anywhere in the "support" site.

Review: I'm not an accounting type...I'm a musician. Not an idiot...been using the computer for years now and have tutored people in various programs. The ads say that "Quick Books Simple Start 2009 Free Edition" is super easy to use and designed especially for small businesses. I had no trouble installing the program or entering in my customer list. I've created invoices and posted some paid with no problem. But I can't seem to figure out the bank account register. WHY does it require an Expense type when I'm trying to post a Deposit? I always thought money coming into the business and money being spent by the business were two different things! I've looked through the online help and found nothing to explain this to me. I didn't post it to the "live community" because I just got so frustrated I shut the program down. I'm not at all convinced I'll be able to use this program, and am sorely disappointed because I really NEED this type of software to get my business finances organized.
