"Not well thought before release"
Pros: Easy to create touchpad buttons and navigation
Cons: Buggy, DB instability, hardware issues
Summary: We have been using this software in our coffee shop for less than six months. The issues we've encountered have been numerous. They include:
1) Moving the SQL Server DB to our office PC running XP Pro caused our employees login information to get corrupted. Moving the DB back to the POS system restored their login capability; however, we lost 300 transactions.
2) The POS system would inexlicably crash at the worst possible time, forcing us to reboot the machine (just restarting the app generated an error stating there was a problem with our credit card reader).
3) The XML-based receipt templates do not include a receipt for customer who wish to tip servers. Asking for a solution on the Microsoft community forum returned a response from a MS member stating POS was really not designed for a coffee shop. I responded that the POS website even said "perfect for coffee shops." The page has since been removed.
4) Reporting is not flexible enough (identifying trends by capturing category sales over a range of dates).
5) The barcode printing capability does not include a way to use barcodes to create discount/gift certificates.
6) The credit card reader does not read giftcards/fixed amount cards using industry-standard Track 1 & 2 technology.
We have been working closely with MS development in getting most of these issues resolved, and they have been diligent in investigating and providing workaround/troubleshooting ideas. But I think the software was not fully tested nor was there a complete requirements gathering for the type of consumers they marketed to.
We're eager to see what features are in v.2.0 due January 2007.
