bait and switch -now trying to charge my bank high fees

Pros: none - I can no longer use this product. Switching to MS Money

Cons: Can no longer use this product because they're trying to rip off the banks/credit unions that once supported it.

Review:

User Rating: 2/10

Don't charge my credit union a flat fee!!!!!

Pros: Nice user interface

Cons: Doesn't make download available to all

Review: I have been using Qn and Qb for years and am generally happy. It is much better than the alternatives...However - I must manually enter my credit union entries because Intuit insists on charging unfair annual fees that my credit union rightly won't accept. Get a per-use fee structure Intuit! Wise up!

Will Not Purchase any new Quicken Product

Pros: Has been great product over the years

Cons: Dropping QIF and charging banks is very bad business

Review: i have used Quicken since the early DOS versions, recently upgrading one of my systems to 2004. This will be the LAST purchase of Quicken as I depend on the QIF download, which they are now charging banks for. My credit union is not supporting the new format, and if they terminate the QIF format, I will switch to Microsoft MONEY.

User Rating: 2/10

No QIF file support

Pros: Nice interface, easy to navigate..Nice window dressing but the inside needs serious work!

Cons: Removed QIF file support

Review: I used Quicken to download transactions from my credit union... Now that Quicken has changed its licensing to charge financial institutions to use the new .OFX functionality (and the licensing is based on the institution's total number of members as opposed to the # of members actually USING the functionality), my credit union has dropped support for anything beyond Quicken 2004. Since this was a big draw for me, I will not be using it any further either... Bad decision Intuit! Charging for what was previously free??? Come on . . .

Save Your Money-Don't buy this Downgraded Version!

Pros: Outweighed entirely by the Cons

Cons: Intuit dropped support for QIF import of bank account info

Review: The removal of importing of QIF files is a money grubbing ploy by Intuit. My credit union and their data processor won't pay the high fees extorted by Intuit to use the OFX format perpetrated by Intuit. I'm using a workaround: create a cash account, name it something like Quicken Data Transfer, and import the QIF file for your bank account into it. Then cut and paste the imported transactions into the account register for your checking or savings account. It works, and Intuit doesn't get one unearned dime! MY NEXT PURCHASE WON'T BE QUICKEN! Intuit, can you spell "Class Action Suit"?

fixfixersfix

Pros: fixitoguate

Cons: guatemalamia

Review:

User Rating: 1/10

TERRIBLE - Giant step backwards

Pros: NONE - ZERO

Cons: ALL - Worst ever

Review: Intuit has made the worst business decision of all with blocking the existing QIF functionality, in a way that poses unfair competition to force their charging strategy.
A leap backwards with a (possibly even illegal?) charging strategy, where Intuit double-Charges the end user and the finantial institution for the same service.
All time low for Intuit; it's lost of customer focus has been seen for some time, in a steady decline (while increasing unfair and ridiculous charging practices), but dives down starting with Quicken 2005.

Quicken 2005 SUCKS

Pros: There are none

Cons: Key feature disabled. No real improvements.

Review: Intuit has no sense of how to keep customers happy. Now I cannot combine accounts, which I need to do. I also can no longer download info from my bank account where ALL of my cash flows through.
MORONS!!!!!

Find something better - seriously

Pros: Cheap, maybe better than pen and paper - if it's accurate?

Cons: Crashes, corruptions, other bugs, poor tech support

Review: I've been a Quicken user for over 10yrs, since v2.0, and I've watched the product get progressively worse; random new but inconsistent and buggy features, crashes, corruptions, incompatibilities, etc, have become the rule rather than the exception in each and every new release. In the last month I've seen 2 program crashes (C++ runtime error), 4 "OLB errors", 2-3 in-memory data corruptions (goes away after restart) and 1 database corruption (scheduled transactions went totally away, had to recover from backup and re-enter new data)...that's the ones I remember, there may be more problems. That's not to mention the lesser problems, screen repaint not quite right, sometimes input is ignored, etc, etc. Plus, I've been using this package long enough to know where the the minefields are, and mostly avoid them. Also, I simply refuse to pay tech support to fix their own problems - that's what they want.

I really don't understand the high CNET rating. Don't just take my word for it, read what other people (including long-time users) have to say. Even with years of archive data, I'm now looking for some way to jump ship and leave Quicken for GOOD.

User Rating: 6/10

Nice Try, but needs a lot of work

Pros: Easy Installation

Cons: Does not allow you to import QIF files for certain accounts

Review: Well lets just say Intuit could follow Microsoft's footsteps on one aspect, they should provide a better conversion utility because the current one just does not work. Besides it not working, it should not require the user to export information from the previous application in order to import the data from the Money file.

Thanks for helping me save my money.

Pros: None that I can see....

Cons: Reading that my bank (BOFA) is forcing customers to upgrade, tells me a lot more about BOFA than Quicken.

Review: I was all set to go online and buy Quicken 2005, I have managed my money 'manually' all these years, but want a good tool to improve that process. This is apparently not the right tool. The fact that Bank of America is forcing customers to upgrade to Quicken 2005 tells me that I will have to find a small bank that can't and won't pay the fees to provide Quicken's new format...been thinking about that anyway.....

Thanks for all the opinions, they saved me a few bucks and lots of frustration.

A sad state of affairs

Pros: Still better than a pen, paper, and calculator (I think?)

Cons: Database issues, HORRIBLE (and expensive) tech support, tired interface, too many limitations

Review: I've been using Quicken for more than 10 years, and I think this may be the push I need to jump ship. I upgraded from 2004 in hopes it would solve my database issues--repeated corruptions that have cost me tons in tech support calls with rude, barely-able-to-speak-English techs--but it did not. What happened? Quicken used to be SO good. And what's with the glowing rating from CNET??? Save your money and try something else. I know I'm going to--soon.

Intuit has lost sight of the customer

Pros: It offers new functionality...it forces new functionality

Cons: Forced OFX, no support for QIF, costly implementation fees for financial institutions which will eventually be absorbed by the customer, & bad customer service.

Review: How did C|NET research this product before it was rated? If research was thorough, how could the fact that Intuit?s decision not to support QIF and how that would influence the quality of the software and it's overall experience be missed?

Have you seen the discussion groups on Intuit's own site? The clients are furious! Intuit...LISTEN!

It sucks! I won't spent hours or dollars with their technicians to get workarounds to their software

Pros: In theory, tracks all kinds of stuff with useful reports

Cons: Bugs, bugs, bugs, and they want to charge you to give you workarounds for making your program work due to their own software bugs!

Review: Intuit should be ashamed to even market this. My Quick Reports would not print the amounts, though it would print the other data. I spent 3 hours with a technician, and only got it to work after I turned the color off for the printer through the Quicken software.

Now when I do a data search for a bank account (e.g. by payee), the search window stays on top of the application after the seasrch is completed, and the data listed, , and I can't get it to disappear. What's more in jams the use of Quicken. I have to exit the whole program and re-enter it in order to start re-entering data or use ANY menu item. I.e. the program jams! Though I can circumvent this by using Quick Reports instead of doing a "Find", I shouldn't have this inconvenience. Though I had some other problems with prior version (such as reconciliation issues, that were a real pain with the 2004 version), this 2005 Premier version sucks even more. Obviously, I can't spend my time on the phone for hours or pay Intuit additional dollars to get work arounds to their software bugs. No matter how many "new" features they add, if basic features don't work and cause HOURS and HOURS, trying to make the software work for basic functions, then it's useless, and not a convenience,or a timesaver. I have found this package to be unreliable. Finally, Intuit seems to be t adding features to worm their way in to charing additional costs beyond the purchase cost. For example, they make the software user frendlyyour use the Quicken reconciliation download where they can charge ad additional amount. But I find when I try to reconcile by not using their (additional cost feature), but instead download direcly from the bank web page, I seem to repeatedly end up with unidentified adjustments amounts to reconcile books with bank. In my opinion, the software appears to be made to work well only for instances where Quicken can charge their premium for downloading from the bank. I you try to reconcile by using the download from the bank web page, the software becomes user unfriendly, and apparently inaccurate. Grade: F. I've used Quicken for years, but no more!

Program doesn't work with large data files

Pros: Search capabilities (now limited) see below.

Cons: Program barely works with large amounts of old data

Review: I have been using Quicken since version one or two. I have acccumulated a very large data file over the years (The QDF file is now 246mb). Unfortunately Quicken Priemer 2005 now takes about two minutes to load and stock transaction now take about a minute each to register. The size of my data file simply bogs down the Quicken program.

I got on Quicken chat for a remedy. Apparently the only way to fix this program is to limit the size of the QDF by including only the last two or three years of data in a newly named file named (copy2). This unfortunately means that you can now longer search out transactions older than those in the new file because the program can no longer find them. What a major headache. I am going to try out Microsoft Money to seen if it works faster with just the original single data file.

Giant step backward

Pros: None over previous editions

Cons: No longer supports .QIF downloads

Review: After seven years of using Quicken, last night I switched to MS Money 2005. I purchased Quicken 2005 to upgrade my quicken 2002, installed it, and immediately lost my ability to download transactions from my credit union. Quickens solution: change banks! I changed software.

User Rating: 1/10

No Longer Supports QIF Format

Pros: Great, if the whole world stayed in step w/ Quicken

Cons: No Longer Supports QIF Format

Review: So my option is to manually enter my transactional data, or pressure my bank to add support for what Quicken has decided to support? Didn't they already do that (QIF)? Now they have to spend more money? And how likely is that? Check with your financial institutions to ensure they support directly connecting w/ Quicken 2005 before buying this product.

Great software!

Pros: Great Interface!

Cons: None so far!

Review: This is a great software! I don't know what the other people are looking at but I was very pleased with this software!! I purchased Mircosoft Money 2005 as an upgrade to my old Quicken software and it STUNK!! It nearly crashed my computer everytime I are Money!! I sent it back for the refund and bought Quicken 2005 Premier and have never looked back!! This gives me the tools to be my own finical planner. I can plan for my new childs college education if I want from this one program! Can't say enought about this product! Oh, the interface is fine!!

Gets worse every year, poor support, miscalculates, bugs

Pros: The design is OK, if it functioned properly

Cons: Poor support, miscalculations, bugs, unstable, resource intensive

Review: I have a real problem with companies that charge for tech support when their product is bug ridden so you have to argue with the support rep whether it's a bug or not. And the support person knows very little about the software and recites the mantra "reinstall" which does nothing anyway.

Problems are too numerous to list, but essentially this product gets buggier every year, and as a customer, we get treated worse every year. The most alarming issue I've seen is that the program miscalculates. For instance, in updating my portfolio this month, the program stated a loss on the portfolio value which differed by 20% !!!! from both my calculations and the report from my portfolio manager (which matched, BTW). This happens consistently.

You can drill down graphs and get inconsistent values as you drill down, as the program seemingly randomly decides whether to calculate based upon internal transfers or not, and there's no way to control this via setup selections.

It does very wierd things to Windows if other programs are running, and is extrememly resource intensive. There are memory leaks, I have to reboot my computer usually after I use it (but not an issue with any other software). And you call them about these issues and they have no clue!!!! Or want to charge you 1/2 the price of the software to work on it ("reinstall" LOL).

I could go on and on, but I'm only hoping Money is better, as I can't take this anymore, I have absolutely no confidence in the numbers I'm seeing. And I've been using Quicken from it's inception.

Don't buy this trash, really! And they don't care it doesn't work.

Terrible- ignores user needs

Pros: Only as good as previus versions

Cons: Does not support QIF files and downloading them from banks. Will not save files to CD RW using Roxio Drag to Disk. Still having to use Quicken 2004 R1 to save to CD RW. Reports still print in reverse

Review: Quicken is not interested in responding to user needs. They living in the past. They charge you when you call in with a problem.

User Rating: 2/10

Awful interface; No longer supports popular QIF files

Pros: Capable of doing many things

Cons: Implementation is TERRIBLE. If you bank or Credit Union uses QIF file formats, then you can't use this product

Review: The main appeal of this product was its ability to import files form my bank and track all my expenses. But Quicken has decided to change the file format it supports - NO LONGER SUPPORTS QIF file format, which most banks and Credit Unions use. The interface is as puzzling and klutzy as i've ever seen in a software product. It was a HUGE WASTE of money!

User Rating: 1/10

One of the most dreadful user interfaces I have ever seen

Pros: None that I can think of

Cons: Very confusing user interface

Review: I was originally provided with Quicken 2000 and Quicken 2003 for free by Bank of America to use in conjunction with their on-line bill payment service. This is all I ever used Quicken for -- to pay bills, maintain my check register and reconcile my account. At the beginning of 2005 I was "required" to upgrade to Quicken at a cost of $39. While the price was steep for what I was getting, I sprang for it anyway.

What a disappointment. The new software's interface is totally different than the old one and extremely confusing. To give you an example: bill paying is hidden under a main menu item labeled "Cash Flow". Even then it is not obvious how one pays a bill. The choices to do so appear to be either "Online Center" or "Payees". Not at all intuitive. Also, choosing one of these alternatives opens a totally new window which, if minimized, ends up on a "faux" task bar at the bottom of Quicken's main window.

There is absolutley no way a beginning user could ever use this software. If you are a Bank of America customer and wish to perform on-line bill payment, I would suggest sticking with BofA's web site. The only downside is you have to maintain your own register.

Quicken no longer supports my bank's online update. (read other reviews)

Pros: maybe you belong to another kind of bank

Quicken 2005 cannot import downloads from credit unions using OFX or QIF imports

Pros: fascinating attention to cosmetic details

Cons: can not longer work with my checking account or broker

Review: I like the fact quicken 2005 no longer support qif files or OFX files from my credit unions.
Although I have asked Intuit to fix this for 9 months, fortuneately they did not . So After 11 years of using Quicken, I finnaly had an important reason to find a linux or Windows finance package called Moneydance. It is great, it than can import both qif files and OFX files and can use either MS windows or Linux. . I now can cancel my quicken credit card, my quicken bill pay. Note: my quicken loan with a compay that does not support quicken but does support Moneydance. SmartMove
I can't wait to tell all my friends, formums and blogs, how happy I am to be a former intuit and windows software user

Quicken sinks to an all time low with their latest offering

Pros: Quciken gave me the software for free because of the "con" listed below

Cons: Forced to "upgrade" to new bill pay service that takes a giant leap backwards!

Review: My issues is not so much with the software itself--although it seems to be on a slow decay orbit that sooner or later will see the software be overrun by the competition.

My beef is with the new Quicken Bill Pay service. Several things went from good to really bad. Some of those items: 1) Account-to-Account transfer went from 1-day to 5-days; 2) The website went from easy to navigate with a pleasant gui, to a cumbersome navigation and a DOS-like gui; 3) Companies I could previously receive ebills from I no longer could; 4) and the list goes on.

When I sent a note to complain about the new service I was told to call Metavante because it was their software--they even gave me a number to call. They blew me off! I did contact Metavante; at first they addressed my concerns--I even started sending them specifics on problems. Eventually they grew tired of me and they blew me off as well.

I began a series of note exchanges with Quicken. Their replies took an average of 10-14 days, and the reply was typically a scripted non-answer. When customer service got tired of me, they passed me up the line and promised that someone would call me within 24-hours. That was over a month ago. I have now written and told them the only way they won't lose me as a customer (after 12 years) is to give me the next 12 months for free. As you might expect, I?ve received no answer.

My answer: Quit paying for crappy service and start using MyCheckFree. It's free and runs circles around Quicken.

Good, but losing flexibility

Pros: Clean and efficient

Cons: Losing fexibility

Review: 2005 comes with some new bells and whistles, although nothing earth shattering. Intuit is however taking away the ability to export and import transactions. If you need to move transactions from one Quicken file to another, you will now need to manually enter any transactions you need instead of just exporting and importing.

Changed to Microsoft Money 2005

Pros: None I can think of

Cons: Drop qif files

Review: Changed to MS Money , since they dropped the qif files. Not able to download statements from my bank any more.

User Rating: 1/10

Duped by Quicken!

Pros: None that could offset my frustration.

Cons: Removing functionality of QIF file support from this version was a BAD DECISION. After using it for a month, I now find it doesn't support QIF files. I'm returning it for a refund!

Review: Quicken's strategy to force financial institutions into subscribing to their new "direct download OFX" file support is a big loser. My small credit union has said they will not submit to Quicken's unfair pricing structure and I agree. I'm also LIVID about the fact that there was no warning, prior to installation and use, of the removed function of QIF files. I would not have upgraded had I known. Their strategy is obviously to motivate end users (like myself) to pressure their banks into subscribing with Quicken - BAD STRATEGY. I am returning 2005 for a refund (http://www.intuit.com/support/quicken/service/refunds/6183.html), and will switch to the competition ... after I also re-enter the past month's transactions.

Intuit Nows Charges Each Financial Institution! Time for Change!

Pros: Real-Time Support

Cons: Fee Based Upon Asset Size and Total Number of Members

Review: Intuit has announced that its Quicken version 2005 will no longer support the .QIF file import capability. I had the capablility of downloading transactions from my financial institutions site in a .QIF file and import that file into Quicken 2004 and earlier versions. In the future, my financial institution will continue to make .QIF transaction downloads available. These download files will continue to work with Quicken 2004 and earlier versions as they have in the past. At this point, my financial institution has no plans to discontinue this support. Below is the statement that I have copied from their website.

"If you choose to upgrade to or purchase Quicken 2005, you will lose the ability to import your transactions.

Coastal has chosen not to support the real-time .OFX interface required for Quicken 2005 as Intuit now charges each financial institution a yearly licensing, setup and maintenance fee to achieve the same functionality available in all previous versions of their software. However instead of assessing a fee based on the number of actual Quicken users here at Coastal, they require a fee based upon our asset size and TOTAL number of members.

As a not-for-profit organization, we are not willing to submit to such an unfair pricing structure.

We appreciate and value your business with Coastal and will notify you if this situation changes."

I agree with my financial institution and therefore will not purchase the upgrade. In fact I have started to move to Microsoft Money.

Intuit, if you read these you better reconsider your decision. Do you feel the ground swelling?
