Intuit has given Quicken 2007 a fresh face that makes it easier to see where your money's going without having to click around the program. This money management tool eliminates the busy register from its prior home page and now opens to a screen with three big boxes displaying money: In, Out, and What's Left. Rather than focusing on Quicken's budgeting features, which require time to set up, Intuit intends for version 2007 to lets you view a running balance of your finances at all times. In addition, a beefed up calendar and online backup provide added convenience and security.
Quicken 2007 works with PCs running Windows 2000 and newer editions (with 128 MB of RAM recommended). On the other hand, Microsoft Money 2007 works for Windows XP only. We reviewed Quicken Premier 2007, which costs $69.99 and includes investment monitoring tools. An edition that's one step above it is the $89.99 Quicken Home & Business 2007, which tracks Schedule C expenses, offers custom invoicing, and handles accounts payable and receivables (but turn to QuickBooks to manage the ins and outs of a small business with multiple employees). You can also check out $29.99 Quicken Basic, but it lacks the electronic check storage, 401(k) and IRA tracking, as well as the assistance with tax deductions that the Deluxe version provides for $10 more. Mac users can pick the $59.99 edition (equivalent to Deluxe for PCs) for OS 10.3.9 and up.
Installation of Quicken Premier 2007 took about five minutes in our tests on a Windows XP machine. Unlike the subtle changes to Microsoft Money 2007, Quicken 2007's makeover is obvious once you open the program. We like the new, tabbed layout, which helps organize information without causing clutter; you can customize the page to display the elements you use most. The Money In, Out, and What's Left boxes feature prominently. You can click those boxes to pop up a mini window of recent income and expense details.

Quicken 2007's left-hand navigation bar offers links to Business Information, Cash Flow, an Investing Center, and Property and Debt data, as well as a snapshot of your net worth. Links along the bottom detail bills and deposits, spending pie and bar charts, and a revamped calendar. From the calendar, just click a bill to view details or to pay it. We found it motivating (or perhaps depressing) to see a running tally of our credit card debt spelled out in glaring red each day.
Intuit designed Quicken 2007 for faster setup out of the box and to let you synchronize multiple financial accounts with one click. Setup can be a snap if you've already registered for online accounts with your financial institutions; just share those logins and passwords with Quicken. Quicken 2007 lets you import data from about 4,300 large and small financial institutions--more than a tenfold increase from Quicken 2006--including banks, creditors, brokerages, and 401(k) providers. Quicken's PIN vault locks away your various passwords for connected banking and other financial accounts so that they're inaccessible outside the program.
When we upgraded to 2007 from Quicken 2006, our historical account details appeared seamlessly, and Quicken prompted us to update by retrieving the latest data online. Unfortunately, when we installed Quicken 2007 from just past midnight on another computer and with different accounts, it was unable to connect to the national bank that we use for our staple checking account. At first, we thought this would force us to turn to Microsoft Money to categorize our daily spending habits. However, we learned that our bank was performing "scheduled maintenance" at that time, and the process worked fine the next day. And as with any software that retrieves information from third-party sources online, Quicken's details are only as up to date as the data from your financial institutions, which can lag by several days depending on how your bank works. Therefore, bills that we had already paid appeared in red as overdue. Luckily, Quicken allows you to manually list your planned expenses and then check them off later when they clear digitally.
Since this review first posted, many users of Quicken 2007 have complained that it crashes frequently. Working with a Quicken file containing 15 years of data, our PC locked up when we tried accessing online investment information. Intuit acknowledged that users with automatically scheduled transactions were experiencing similar problems, and it released patches in October to remedy this. If you're using Quicken while connected to the Internet, an update message should appear to notify you of such patches. If you lack an Internet connection, you can receive replacement CDs in the mail by contacting the company's technical support.
We're pleased that Intuit now gives you the option to pay $10 per year for 100MB worth of online backup--an affordable must that can safeguard your data in case of a catastrophe. If you choose that option, Quicken reminds you to back up online every third time you use the software. Microsoft Money, by contrast, asks to back up your accounts each time you use the program, and it demands that you use a Microsoft ID to do so. At least Quicken 2007 gives you the option to install the app locally and not connect online.

Within an account register, you can click on a link to bring up a tiny window of details about recent transactions from that vendor without having to leave the page. We like that with Quicken 2007, when you import expenses that bear cryptic coding instead of a vendor's name, you can rename that business, select a category, and tell Quicken to save and apply that change from that point on to matching expenses. A blue star next to a vendor name indicates that Quicken links to the Zipingo business review service; you can click and contribute your own rating. And as with earlier versions of Quicken, you can pick from among dozens of charts and reports to create a custom picture of your expenses and income and more. As in the past, you can also use Quicken to pay bills online without jumping to multiple bank and vendor Web sites.
Intuit has built a "virtual filing cabinet" within Quicken 2007 to reduce your use of paper filing. You can attach PDFs, JPGs, and other file types to Quicken to keep images of receipts, invoices, and expenses within the application. You can copy and paste images of checks from your bank's Web site or elsewhere directly into Quicken 2007, which now supports scanning. Those files live within an encrypted folder that remains inaccessible outside of Quicken.

Quicken Premier 2007's financial planning tools can help you juggle investments and attempt to rein in debts by imagining scenarios, complete with bar graphs, that predict future cash flow and net worth--helpful when we mulled adjusting a bimonthly 401(k) contribution. Other "what if" goals include buying a house or splurging on another major expense, as well as affording college or retirement. But as with other financial software, Quicken lacks help for managing student loans--a major deterrent for young users.
Still, a potential benefit to using Quicken to manage your money is that it integrates with when you file with the IRS--and other niche Intuit products, such as its $49.99 Home Inventory Manager, the $69.99 Medical Expense Manager (helpful in our preliminary tests), and $99.99 Rental Property Manager. To balance your digital checkbook on the go, the $39.95 Pocket Quicken syncs your financial snapshot on a Pocket PC or Palm OS handheld.
Tech support for Quicken 2007 is thorough but costly. As always, the searchable online knowledgebase and FAQs are in-depth, animated tutorials alert you to key features, and you can connect with other passionate users for help. Toll-free phone assistance is live weekdays from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT, and is free for discussing registration, upgrading, Bill Pay, and defects. It's too bad that most other questions, including online banking errors and data corruption, run a pricey $24.95 per incident. Luckily, though, online chat assistance is available 24/7 except between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 PT.
We find Quicken Premier 2007 to be a terrific value. The simplified, yet customizable interface and new features make this program worth the upgrade for long-time users.

I am now cosidering moving away from Intuit Tax program as well due to Quicken's poor performance. I lack trust in Intuit and cannot afford tax errors.

Terrible - Are there Razzie Awards for software?
Pros: Apparently they'll refund my purchase price.
Cons: Crashes; won't import properly from previous versions; support is slow and inconsistent.. Forces me to start from scratch.
I had multiple problems installing from a download. It took 10 days and several install/uninstall iterations to solve.
Once that was over, Quicken didn't properly import from a backup of my data. It moved savings goal amounts into assets and yet left the withdrawl/contribution amounts in the original accounts. In other words, my savings account has all sorts of transactions from all sorts of savings-goal actions, but no corresponding savings-goal accounts. Quicken support has been slow in responding and I don't hold out much hope.
The program has crashed just about every time I've used it. It won't download upgrades, it's frozen when downloaded currency rates etc. etc. etc. Manual downloads work fine, but I don't see that they solved any of the major issues I'm dealing with. What a mess they've made!
It's so touchy I think I'll return it and just use an old piece of software that's at least reliable. Intuit has really missed the boat - this is the most unstable piece of software I've used in a decade.

Set a new standard for user UN Friendliness
Pros: Lots of features
Cons: Extremely frustrating to use
I'm a Product Manager, for software and wouldn't allow something like this to get into my clients hands.
For software thats been around sooooo long, I can't understand they can't get very basic features right.
Downloading your transactions takes about 15 mouse clicks. OK, so it saves all my passwords, but then why do I need to enter another password?? Give me the option to turn that off.
I finally download my transactions then and need to confirm I want them? Of course I do.
Entering transactions takes far too many steps.
Exiting the program, it asks me to back up. Just back up automatically.
After downloading transactions it hung many times.
The whole idea is to have software work for me and not for me to work for the software. I need a product to make my life easier, not harder.
Its a continuous mess of pop ups and extra work that needs to be done.
I'm uninstalling for the last time and won't be back. Intuit - you did a very poor job.

This is the worst money management software I have ever used, period.
Pros: Looks nifty, pretty colors
Cons: Can't seem to match numbers against online account, can't seem to recognize repeated transactions
After downloading the free-trial and setting it up to grab data from my B of A account, which was simple enough, the problems started.
Right off the back the numbers didn't match by several hundred dollars. The running totals, daily balance, for quite a while back were off. Doesn't the program see it doesn't match? No. It just keeps going along like nothing was wrong.
I tried to delete the account so I could start over and see if I did something wrong, even though I am confident that I did not, and it would even let me delete the account.
I tried the "reconcile" feature and it noticed there was a difference as it was short by $200 so I let it auto-adjust and what did it do? It took out another $111 from my account. Hello!?
Either way, there has to be better software out there then this pile of garbage. I give this program a "1" simply because if the program can't even balance the money, when the program is SUPPOSED to balance money, then it's obviously a horrible program.

This 10 year user of Quicken will be switching to Money.
Pros: Excellent User Interface
Cons: Inconsistent reports and stock price quote updates that are not available when I am.
1. Quicken 2007 continues to have inconsistencies in my budget and investment reports, some of which go back for a couple of years.
2. In November of 2006, I began to experience issues with updating stock and mutual fund prices. Intuit?s quote server does not appropriately respond to the inquires from my software between mid afternoon and late evening, Pacific time, during a weekday. In March 2007, I was told that the quotes server worked and that the issue I am experiencing was temporary. It is now May 30, 2007 and I consistently experience the same issue, just about every weekday since February 2007. The most recent communications with Quicken support says basically that this is a known problem and that when it is fixed; there will be a posting on their web page.
3. For the last three (3) years, there has been the same issue with how Intuit?s TurboTax software calculates my state income taxes. Each year I have discussed with TurboTax?s support. Every year they work with me to do a work around and say that they will request a change to the software. It has gotten better. But in the end, the same issue causes my state taxes not to be correct if I follow their published instructions.
I am both a power user and a power investor. When I first started using Intuit?s products and services I found them to be extremely helpful, and of a very high quality. Yes, there were issues. But; there was always a quick work around. For the last year or so, it appears to me that Intuit has lost the will, if not the ability, to create and maintain quality products and services.

64-bit Windows Vista challanged
Pros: Never really got into it
Cons: Vista program start issues (see review), no way to import from Money
Finally, after following the steps Intuit outlined on their website verbatim, the import never succeeded. Not once. It doesn't even import QIF files.
Maybe it is a good program. I don't know, but I wanted to know. The #1 feature they need is a way to import from Money out of the box.

Try and compare before you buy.
Pros: Quicken 2007 versions are improved.
Cons: Quicken 2007 versions have been released too early.
I am using Quicken 2006 Deluxe version.
Users use Rewriteable CDs to back up their Data Files and should be done weekly, if not monthly to CDs.
I use DVD-RW Disks and CD-RW Disks when backing up my Quicken Data Files. I use Nero's InCD program to create Pre-formatted Disks, from whick you can delete from, without the need to reformat the CDs and DVDs.
Quicken 2006 Deluxe version works perfectly in backing up the Data Files, without them becoming Read-Only when backing up to CD-R Disks.
Every single time you attempt to back up your Data Files during the exact same thing that you have done in 2006, in 2007 you receive a CD Backup Error message, every single time.
This is a major programming bug, that has yet to be address by Quicken Support, in issuing a patch to fix the bug.
In the future, I wish the reviewers would compare previous versions of products to the next version.
But since Quicken 2007 has too many bugs in it, it would not be advise or wise to use Quicken 2007, but to use Quicken 2006 when comparing to Quicken 2008.

Awful upgrade including data corruption
Pros: I didn't experience any
Cons: Data corruption (need I say more!?)
My data and settings were mangled during upgrade. Not sufficiently mangled to be immediately noticeable. It took about 20 min of using the new version before I started noticing very odd inconsistencies in my data and the software settings.
Auto-recurring payments that I've had setup for years, were not listed in the scheduled payments table or anywhere else for that matter. Some items in my check, amex and other registeries were duplicated.
After nearly an hour and a half in a call with Intuit support (India), my support rep dropped off the line never to return. I called back and provided my phone number and other details hoping I'd be able to get connected to the same rep (otherwise I knew it was back to the same basic steps before we got even close to where I'd been with the previous rep). Nope, not able to connect to the previous rep.
Shame on CNET for giving this product such high marks.
I should have given much greater weight to the user reviews here.
Pathetic product. Awful customer support. An obviously very buggy product.

Pros: "The Editors Choice"
Cons: Bugs Bugs Bugs
Even with the R4 release, many people cannot access downloaded transactions, get out of memory errors, and have all sorts of other problems that were not there in Quicken 2006.
Also, you should be aware that, after something like three years, Intuit acutally turns off features, like transaction downloads to force you to upgrade while Microsoft does no such thing (I can still download transactions in Money 2000).

Intuit cripples their products after 3 years
Pros: Software works well intitially. Like the user interface.
Cons: On-line account access turned off after 3 years
I have been a happy and loyal Quicken/Turbo Tax customer for a decade. Not any more.
Quicken will disable automatic on line downloads for Quicken 2004 at the end of April. They claim this is to focus their efforts on their newer products. A claim that sounds reasonable at face value. I can understand that a company would not provide tech support forever. However, there is no legitimate reason to turn off features of software that works just fine. This is a blatant money grab.
I had a horrible upgrade experience going from Quicken 2002 to Quicken 2004. It took the better part of a day with help from tech support to convert my Quicken 2002 data. Something that should have taken 5 minutes. Even after all of that, I had to reenter by hand a lot of data. This has made me delay upgrading for a while, since I cannot afford to regularly spend such time. Given this there will be no more Quicken upgrading.
As bad as Microsoft can be, I have yet to see them try to pull a stunt like this.
sadly yours - Jon
I am still very unhappy with these folks, but it turns out that Microsoft does the same thing only sooner (2 years vs. 3 years currently)

Horrible Support
Pros: Good program.
Cons: Stoped supporting the product.
I have called the phone support and agreed to pay the $25.00 fee. They tell you that you that there will be no charge if the problem is not corrected.
I had occasion to support twice recently. The first time I gave them my credit card information. After a very long time on the phone with someone who?s English I could not understand I found the answer to my own problem. I told the person this and she asked me if I was satisfied with the level of support I had received form her. Not wanting to make a bad situation worst and hearting her feelings I said yes but that I had been the one to solve my problem. I was charged for the call.
A couple of weeks later I had to call again. Again I was told that there would be a fee for the call but hey would resolve the problem or no charge. I did not give this man my credit card information.
After going on for a while I told the man I could not understand him and could I speak with someone else. He told me no I had to talk with him.
I went on for several more minutes and then told him that I had to stop because I could not understand him and was getting no place resolving the problem. He was very nice and told me that he would speak slower and we would correct the problem. I could not take it anymore and terminated the call.
When my next credit card statement came I found out that I had been charged for the call. I had not given them the credit card information so they must have gone back into the records and got my number form the previous call.
I wrote a letter to Mr. Steve Bennett, CEO of Intuit. About a couple of weeks after writing the letter I had a message left on my answering machine form someone who was calling about the letter I had written. I had the feeling the caller was calling from offshore. He said he would call me back. A couple more weeks have gone by and to return call. He never left a phone number for me to call him.
I have been a loyal user of Quicken for many years and almost every year would purchase the new version. I am now looking for another program to use.
From the office of the CEO on down Intuit had become a company indifferent to the needs of their customers. Perhaps Mr. Gates will do a better job with Microsoft Money!
Don?t purchase any Intuit products because the support will not be there.
Michael Dell recently took back his company and part of the problem was because of the outsourcing of customer support. I hope other companies get the idea that what once was a good idea had become a nightmare.

Looks slick. Except for the major errors updating my old data files
Pros: Not much to report, as the software damaged data.
Cons: Major errors to data files when upgrading
So I went for it. Installation was reasonably painless, until I looked at the data Quicken 2007 read from my earlier version. I now have a negative 46 thousand dollar balance in my checking account, and the projections in the software show hundreds of trillion dollar amounts.
On contacting quicken support, they were unable to solve the problem. And I contacted well over 5 different "support" persons. My data is gone (thankfully, I have the original 2004 data files and can continue to use that, but Quicken will not allow me to update balances.)
What was their solution? Sending my data files (hey, this is private information) over the internet so some hack can look through it and "repair" my files. Not to mention I would have to RE-ENTER 14 years of data when they send it back to me. Oh, yeah, they refunded my money, but still have no solution. Not to mention the "support" personel persons who hung up on me when they couldn't answer a question.
This brings to mind DAC software in the early '90's who came up with an URGENT upgrade that destroyed every user's data. They couldn't fix the problem and the company went belly up.
So long, Intuit. Incidentally, I also use Quickbooks for my business, and I purchased the payroll service from them. The amounts the payroll instructs to send to the taxman differs from the amount they report on the tax return.
I'd stay away from Intuit products until when (or IF) they get their act together.

Intuit is "ethically challenged" - Don't buy
Pros: It is a good program...however
Cons: Forced upgrades via "Sunset Policy" are unbelievable
What you need to realize is that after 3 years, they DISABLE key functionality of the software, forcing you to upgrade to the next version.
I was SATISFIED with Quicken 2004. However, I had to upgrade because Intuit disabled the key functionality of being able to download transactions from my bank!!
Instead of forcing me to upgrade with a "timebomb policy" how about creating a product that I want to upgrade to?
Imagine if Honda came to your house and disabled your car after 3 years?
Look for other software solutions! Don't become an Intuit crack addict.

Do not upgrade if you have T Rowe Price Accounts
Pros: I don't know about this
Cons: I had to reinstall my 2004 Quicken to do my tax
The 2007 Premier totally corrupted my transactons with my T Rowe Price accounts. I spent a lot of time last Summer reconciling all my T Rowe Price accounts. But after I upgraded to Quicken 2007 Premier, all of my "Use Cash from" were changed to a saving account that I have with a bank, instead of from the same "Single Mutual Fund" account I have with T Rowe Price. (For those who don't know anything about T Rowe Price Mutual Fund, they create a new account for each fund you invest in. When you transfer from one fund to another, the originating fund does not store cash but will transfer the cash amount to the new "invest in" mutual fund for you.)
After the 2007 Premier screwed up my data, I tried to change the "Use Cash from" to the correct T Rowe Price account, but they are not showing up in the drop down menu. So I research the problem in Quicken help. Basically it said, if you have a "Single Mutual Fund" account you need to select "do not use online update". Now, that is a bunch of bull crap. My 2004 Quicken was updating the "Single Mutual Account" transactions fabulously. I ended up frustrating for a few weekends, and then decided to uninstall 2007 and reinstall 2004. I don't know how CNet could think that 2007 is worth updating. But as far as I am concerned, if you have accounts with T Rowe Price, save yourself some cash and wait for Quicken to fix the bug.
Normally, I won't have rated it a 1. But I think this is a binomial decision, either you upgrade or not, and I think you should not upgrade.

Don't bother, not worth your time or effort
Pros: Looks good
Cons: Doesn't work as expected, and persistent "upsell" for Q services is annoying at best
I used Q from before they killed support for the older versions, so I was optimistic. Now I am only persistently disappointed and frustrated.
Upon startup, I am repeatedly asked to "setup," even though I can see my data from the last session. Setup persistently sends me to "register" online with Q.com, even though I already did. NOW, it will no longer d/l from my bank, and I'm left with only manual input...
Gee whiz ~ I might as well use a plain ol' spreadsheet for all the "new & improved" functionality I've got...

Intuit is going downhill
Pros: They can still turnaround
Cons: Tech support is useless
To be frank, the customer service (or lack thereof) has completely turned me away from buying any of Intuits products. If they want to survive as a company, they have to lose the Indian tech support.
Tech support grammar is horrendous to the point where the average person couldn't understand what they are trying to say. They are also complete idiots--unable to answer a simple question about importing data from Money to the newest Quicken. 15 minutes with tech support, and they couldn't tell me if they could even import data from Money.
In this page (http://quicken.intuit.com/personal-finance/premier-portfolio-management.jhtml#Q8), the link in the FAQ says that Money data can be converted to 2007 format using a data converter. If you follow the link to (https://quicken.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/quicken.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2659), there is a prominant note that says "The converter will not convert data to Quicken 2007."
They may be saving a $1 by off-shoring tech support, but they are losing MUCH more than that in lost sales revenue.
Intuit was a really good company at one time. Too bad they sold themselves short with inferior support. Hopefully they'll pull their collective heads out of their arses and build themselves back up as a reputable company.
Until then, I am stuck using Microsoft Money.

Printer problems
Pros: Great product if do not care about printing or support
Cons: Printing problems with clueless support
Quicken Support (via India) was clueless. I finally got reports to print on an inkjet and checks on a laser printer. However, the last Quicken update made everything condense into 1" x 1" size or in some cases, reversed mirror image.
Unfortunately, I can not go back to Quicken 2006 because file is not compatible. Recommend you do not upgrade to Quicken 2007 until Intuit fixes the problem.

Why use something that is proprietary? Memories of IBM.
Pros: Works well if you do your finances the way Quicken wants you to
Cons: Can't modify the import files to the application. Not all institutions want to pay a "fee" to Quicken so they can supply the barely proprietary format to customers.

Went back to Money after trying
Pros: I can't think of any
Cons: Import from Money difficult if not impossible. Doesn't work with my bank.
Figured I just download my account from the bank, and suprise, suprise, my bank (one of the largest in my state) is not supported.
Subsequently upgraded to Money 2007, had no problems, and noticed that they are able to import Quicken Data, and also import data from any bank that can export data in OFX format (which at least includes my bank).

Will Not Purchase
Pros: It will help you do your books
Cons: 24.99 per outsourced customer service call
The website, as of about 7am Pacific time showed this product at 71.99 with free shipping. When I added it to my cart, it showed a price of 79.99. It was too early to call as the Website help line stated it was open at 8am pac time. So I waited.
I went back to the original screen to look at it again and, yes the price was the 71.99, left the screen open and worked on other items.
At 8am, I went to "contact us" on their website and saw that there may be a charge to call... so I read up on that and the hair on the back of my neck started to stand up when I read that there is a 24.99 charge unless you are calling to purchase or have install questions. I called anyway, since it is free if I want to give them my money, and talked to an out sourced person who could not understand the issue because of her ability to understand and speak English. After explaining it a couple of times she walked through it with me, WHICH I did on a new screen to keep my old one up, and the new screen did show the 79.99 as the price. Two screens, same address, two prices... interesting.
At this point I asked if all of their phone service calls were outsourced. I was told yes...
With all of the above being the case, I am interested in doing business with a company like that.

Not Ready for Public Use
Pros: It's Quicken, so the idea is right
Cons: Far too buggy, and not customizable as much.
I've been using Quicken for over 10 years, and this version was horrible. It had trouble downloading transactions, or displaying what it allegedly downloaded. The hook with Quicken.com is pretty much impossible to break...and its never right.
Finally, you can't change the color scheme- you are stuck with this teal green that reminds me of a 1960's municipal office building- dark and drab and it makes the text hard to read.
After ten days I got fed up with it, reinstalled Quicken 2006 which is fantastic and sent the new disc back to Intuit.
My advice- stick with 2006 or wait for a major service pack for 2007.

I miss features available in older versions such as import into brokerage and banking accounts.
Maybe in 2008.

Seems to have a bug in data conversion
Pros: Many new financial institutions added; new UI grows on you.
Cons: Buggy; corrupted my backup data
Upon investigating, it appeared that the conversion of my data to 2007 ended up corrupting it.
Customer support suggested that I reinstall Q2006 and make sure the data was correct in that version (Of course I knew that it was originally correct, that's how I noticed the problem in 2007).
At this point, I discovered that the data save that the 2007 installer does from the prior Quicken version corrupted the saved data, as it would no longer load correctly in the reinstalled 2006.
Long story short, I ended up reinstalling an older 2006 backup and adding back in all the missing transactions to bring it current.
Clearly they have problems; I won't be upgrading this go around.

Early release was too buggy for me to use
Pros: Enhanced online banking capability
Cons: Document imaging was not working, & their tech support was no help
Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that once I installed 2007, I could no longer access existing attachments, nor could I create new ones. If I tried to use a .mdi file (Microsoft's imaging format) I got an error that the file could not be accessed. When I tried using .pdf files, it was even worse; as soon as I would try to open the .pdf file, Quicken would quit, without so much as an error message.
After spending a couple of hours trying to troubleshoot this myself, I reported it to Quicken's tech support, and dutifully followed their instructions: delete and reinstall all pdf drivers, reinstall Quicken, start with an empty Quicken datafile. None of this solved the problem (it didn't help that some of their responses where in such fractured English as to render them nearly incomprehensible.) Finally I reinstalled the 2006 version, and all my attached documents were once again working. Because I use Quicken on an almost daily basis, I had to make the decision to revert to the earlier version rather quickly, since any work I did in the 2007 version was not backwards-compatible with my 2006 files. Whatever prevented the imaging from working in 2007, it certainly wasn't a problem with the 2006 version.
With the little bit of time that I did run 2007, I was glad to see that they had made some major improvements with Online Banking. For instance, with my E*Trade bank accounts I had to manually import the data into 2006-- it was easy to do, but still not automatic (E*Trade Brokerage has long been supported for auto-updates.)
There was also an overhaul to the look and feel of the screens. Unfortunately, Quicken doesn't give you the option of keeping the old skins, which I would have preferred.
I don't know if I'll give 2007 another shot in a few months, when they have hopefully worked-out the bugs with the imaging, or just wait until 2008 and see what's new there. Though, as a very long-time Quicken user (going back to DOS versions) I have lost a bit of faith in Intuit with this last go-around.

Something for anyone new to Quicken. Not much for Quicken vets.
Pros: It's prettier than its predecessor.
Cons: This is primarily a cosmetic upgrade with few, if any, substantive new features.
Intuit doesn't often publish "dot releases." If it did, Quicken 2007 would be more accurately named Quicken 2006.5.

Not There Yet
Pros: Getting There
Cons: Still Needs Work
Anyone who pays any attention to their finances doesn't need to see an IN - OUT = WHAT'S LEFT to know what's going on with their finances. The Budget section is another crutch that's been around since at least the 2004 version. An old quote comes to mind when I think "Budget". A Budget is a plan for going broke methodically.
There's a new "Rate" button that they stuck into the Checking Register that links to their new Zipingo website that is a rip-off of angieslist.com
I'll consider my $40 upgrade payment for the new Quicken 2007 Deluxe as a contribution to the development of Quicken 2008 or 2009 and hope they get that one right. Until then I'll stick with Quicken Deluxe 2004.
If you're running an earlier version of Quicken save you money and give them another year or so to get this product up to snuff or at least buy yourself a new widescreen monitor.
