Beware of Info gathered for Company

Pros: Attractive price and convenience of having State Disk available with deluxe package.

Cons: Only after agreeing to the license agreement are disclosures made on what personal information the company gathers from your tax return for their purposes - too much - too private. I don't want to e-file at this point - there is no need for the company to

Not much different from Turbo Tax, change in their rules cheat you out of your rebates!

Pros:

Cons: Difficult to get to certain parts of the tax forms. New mail in dates for rebates cheat you out of them!

Program blew up, I re-installed federal, but they won't let me reload the state after 60 days.

Pros: None

Cons: I bought the federal version at Staples, and purchased the on-line version from HR Block on Jan. 24. I was doing my taxes on March 24 and I got a configuration error while trying to print. I went to their web site and they said I'd have to reinstall. I

Good for simple returns

Pros: Ease of use - good program for simple returns (W-2 income and simple interest and dividends).

Cons: I have used both products trying to determine which is best. It's 50-50. If your return is complicated let a professional look at it - it's usually worth the extra money. I also dislike the rebates that both use,but that seems to be the wave of the future

Easy to use and navigate.

Pros: Easy to use and navigate. Good on-line support.

Cons: A few bugs that caused a visit to the on-line support center.

good value, especially if one needs Money update

Pros: price after rebate

Cons: Sometimes unwieldy to switch easily from one window to another after interview is finished

Not as smooth as TurboTax

Pros: For non complicated tax returns it is as good as TurboTax. Imports TurboTax prior year returns flawlessly.

Cons: I think CNET's review is right on the money. I used TurboTax for years but after last years debacle with product activation, I dumped TurboTax. TaxAct is not as intuitive, comprehensive or smooth as TurboTax and when it told me to manually complete Form

major flaws such as child tax credit

Pros: cheap

Cons: Makes major errors, such as determining that I was entitled to a $2400 child tax credit that I was not entitled to, which is actually a very simple determination to make based on my income. It also imported all kinds of figures incorrectly from my federal

Cons: None that I notices

Cons: Help menu could be better for screens witnin the product.

Good for easy standard tax forms

Pros: Easy to use on simple tax forms.

Cons: More difficult deductions require you own research to get correct results, and wording is misleading on some questions.

Cheap for the money but Turbo Tax is better

Pros: I managed to buy the product with a full rebate on Fed. and State, MS Money and Deduction Pro. Easy to use interface. Good for simple tax chores.

Cons: Has limited number of particiating financial firms such as Citigroup, Smith Barney and others that you can't download 1099 and you need to enter info manually. Has a few flaws that have not been rectified as per their website support.

Failed to find significant deductions

Pros: Easy to use. Identified some deductions, particularly charitible contributions.

Cons: Did not find excess social security withholding - a significant oversight. Finding where to enter last year's tax refund (which is taxable) was difficult.

Nothing but god things to say

Pros: Cheap. Very user friendly. Used both Turbo tax and Tax Cut. Tax Cut is definitely the better value.

Cons: None.

Tech Support Unresponsive

Pros: Federal program works flawlessly.

Cons: As a long time user of Kiplinger's versions I'm very unhappy with the H&R Block product. The Federal tax program works flawlessly but my state version has bug. Four messages to Tech Support have not resulted in an investigation of the problem and th

Good for simple taxes

Pros: Cheap. The interview is relatively thorough. If your tax situation is relatively simple

Cons: Can't handle same-day short sales and covers. Limited automation for "Wash Sales". Short term capital loss carryforward not displayed or printed anywhere. The help file tends to explain things in "accountingese" and use a term in it's own definition. Give

As good as Turbo Tax and $10 cheaper

Pros: Ease of use. The deduction Pro cd was great. I would never have known what values to put on charitable items. No problems installing or using.

Cons: Don't like having to send in rebates for everything, but it's the same for Turbo Tax

Review:

worth buying good rebates

Pros: rebates are worth it alone good UI , except for fact that if you need to go back for a DCN it is difficult to find , and you need it to file the state rebate. No problems importing past years data and AGI from past year was automatically filled in during

Cons: UI needs some work , not very easy to just stop midstream. for ex. if one has changes mind about efiling you have to navigate through a lot of screens back. GOTO function is not very user friendly.

Buy TurboTax

Pros: Cheaper then TurboTax

Cons: Only after purchasing, downloading, and installing state program did the program tell me that it could not file a part-time resident return. (Won't even begin to fill out the forms - no just e-file). Email to customer support received no response. After

NYC resident shouldn't buy it

Pros: cheaper

Cons: Unable to print IRS mailing address for NYC resident, the program only print IRS mailing address for NYS resident

Horrible Support Options

Pros: Easy interface. Good rebate with Microsoft Money.

Cons: Bad support, poor return policy, and not upfront that you can't e-file a State Return if you are a Non-Resident until after you have filed the Federal return.

Review:

User Rating: 8/10

Fine application

Pros: It's not TurboTax. I will not support TurboTax in the foreseeable future for their foray into spyware and activation last year. I hope others do this so all developers learn a lesson.

Cons: It's not TurboTax

Review:

User Rating: 4/10

Try other software

Pros: It was offered free after rebate (Federal, State, and DeductionPro).

Cons: Limited features and many bugs. Some sections appear "job-left-incomplete"I recommend TaxAct, which is also available free.
