"NOT RECOMMENDED DO NOT BUY"
on by chicagoeggmanPros I have nothing good to say. Sad but true. I used it for many years, but this year VERY DISAPPOINTED. IT FAILED, and I am out of time. WASTE OF TIME.
Cons PROGRAM DOES NOT UPDATE CORRECTLY. IT WILL NOT EFILE IF NOT UPDATED. THEIR "FIX" LOOKS LIKE IT WORKS BUT DOES NOT, IT WON'T LET YOU EFILE. SUPPORT DEPT - NO HELP.
I AM NOT A NOOB, BEEN USING FOR MANY YEARS. NOT ANY MORE.Summary If you are running late this year, DON"T try TT, it will disappoint you.
1. From installation it was bad. When first trying to start the program, it hung up and crashed - could not update. This cost me half a day, installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting, etc. WHat a WASTE OF TIME.
2. Finally found from their lousy support page, on a HIDDEN page, that there is a KNOWN ISSUE of update problems. Downloaded the "fix" and proceeded.
3. OK, looks good, I entered my taxes.
4. All ready to Efile! Ooops, what's this? Turbotax must update before I can Efile.
5. Try to update. Program crashes. Try to update using the "Fix". Won't file, says needs to update. ***.
6. Tried TINA. USELESS.
7. Tried calling phone support 3 times. Wasted days with these people, finally one "tech" said "sorry, I have bad news, you have to go to online site, and re-enter all your taxes".
8. 2 weeks since I started my taxes, now it is getting close. I am not going to risk wasting any more time with this incomplete product. I will file directly on IRS site, despite my severe misgivings.
I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE LOW QUALITY OF PRODUCT, SUPPORT AND LACK OF FOLLOW UP ON THIS ISSUE. I HAVE USED TURBOTAX FOR MANY YEARS AND THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST TIME I HAVE EVER HAD DOING MY TAXES. I WILL NOT USE TURBOTAX AGAIN, AND I WILL DISSUADE ANYONE ELSE FROM RISKING THEIR TIME AND EFFORT ON A FAULTY, HALF-BAKED PRODUCT. I WISH I COULD PUT A ZERO STAR HERE, OR EVEN A NEGATIVE STAR, I AM ENTIRELY DISGUSTED WITH TURBOTAX AND THEIR LACK OF INTEGRITY AND SUPPORT. -
"More costly and less useful than previous versions"
on by bw43Pros Imports from TT 2007 and from many financial instutions.
Cons Too many updates; can't get it right the first time!
Big glitch in Ohio program, included with TT Deluxe.Summary Less user friendly than previous versions. Ease of moving around seems more complicated. MAJOR glitch in State (Ohio) program. They keep promising a fix by 4/1/2009, but for now you just cannot calculate the deductions for military retirement pay and federal civil service pay, even if you use the workaround posted by "TurboTax Michael" In the TT Community. It works, but once you click through to Print and File - continue, it goes away, just as if you'd never entered any information for this deduction. Shabby. I've used TT for many years and never had a complaint. I think they are pushing an inferior product this time.

"If you want to get it done quickly, this is the way."
on by kecward78Pros Very fast and self-explanatory. If you have all the W-2's, K-1's, etc. when you start, you can get it done in less than 1 hour.
Cons If you want your return done electronically, then TurboTax routes it thru Santa Barbara Savings and Trust. Not only do you pay for the Federal cost, another fee for State filing PLUS the fee to do it electronically thru Santa Barbara is EXORBITANT.
Summary Since I don't own a home, but receive a small trust, my refund (both Fed. and State) totalled about $400. After all the TurboTax fees, I'm only getting back $240. The Santa Barbara electronic filing charges $50 per return -- one for Fed. and one for State. Beware the hidden fees!

"A breeze to use"
on by Zbillz1Pros Easy to understand, great extra "help" explanations, If you already use their quicken program, data flows from 1 to the other without a hitch,
Cons No live help
Summary I'm self employed + An active investor (stocks, options & limited partnerships) + I use a home office = Not a simple tax return to calculate! I've used (& love) Quicken's Home & Business program for years to track all my personal, business & investment transactions, accounts etc. I've used TurboTax for the last three tax years (w Windows XP), w never a problem. Turbotax Brings me through the miserable experience of calculating & reporting taxes quickly & accurately through a very, very easy to understand format, language & guidance (which I need) ! ...Enter the data by answering the questions (multiple choice), hit "yes" to review/correct/summarize & poof! It's done!! I know zip about accounting. This is one very well thought out program making something that's very difficult & confusing both manageable, flexible &, most importantly, Easy To Use. BTW, TurboTax, if you tell it to, reads the transactions from it's Quicken / Quick Books checking account program thus avoiding having to summarize #'s yourself (unless you want to).
FYI I've always used Intuiit's more extensive TurboTax for Home & Business program, NOT TurboTax Deluxe ...

"Spend $100 extra and get a pro"
on by rwindmannPros If you go to work every day and then come home, this is perfect for you. If you don't own a home, consult on the side, were affected by a disaster, had a health event, etc., thsi is perfect for you.
Cons I bought this software as a due diligence check, to make sure my tax professional (CPA) was getting m my max return. I expected a slight variance - but the difference was huge - Turbotax return was $512, and the CPA's was $4363.00 - you do the math.
Summary Spend a little extra, eliminate the risk and maximize your return.
