The ATM CES port adapter is an ATM access concentrator on a card. The Cisco 7200 router with an ATM CES port adapter results in a cost effective, single-box, Cisco IOS-based solution that is ideally positioned as a customer premise equipment (CPE) device where integration of circuit emulation (voice and video) traffic and packet (data) traffic is required over a public or private broadband ATM network. This approach provides many benefits to the user, such as lower system cost, lower management cost, and an end-to-end Cisco WAN solution. The ATM CES port adapter is a new generation of ATM interface modules for Cisco 7200 routers. Based on industry-leading port adapter technology, the ATM CES is a dual-wide module. It has four T1 (1.54 Mbps) or E1 (2.0 Mbps) ports that can support both structured (n x 64 kbps) and unstructured ATM Forum compliant CES, and a single port of either an OC-3 (155 Mbps) single-mode (SM) intermediate reach or a DS3 (45 Mbps) or E3 standards-based ATM interface. The E1 CES ports are available in 120 ohms only. The target application for the ATM CES port adapter is access to a broadband public or private ATM network where multiservice consolidation of voice, video, and data traffic over a single ATM link is a requirement. The combination of ATM CES port adapter and Cisco 7200 router provides a cost-effective, one-box solution with full Layer 3 routing, complemented with ATM multiplexing capabilities. This solution is targeted as a Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) device to be deployed in both enterprise networks and as part of a managed network service offered by service providers.
