  • "not working out of the box"
    on by vf500

Pros heh, it comes with a nice stand!

    Cons well, it didn't work

Summary just happened to be given this as a gift, brand new in the box and it wouldn't work in two pc's. I went back to using netgear and linksys products, with which I have never had a bad item out of the box. I've had other friends have problems with other belkin wireless products so I will no try them again.

  • "easy way to go wireless"
    on by phredex

Pros low cost, fast set-up, sturdy connection

    Cons software confusing (at first)

Summary Can't beat it for 39 bucks. Had to call Belkin for assistance during set-up but that's because I was a rookie to wireless. They have good customer service though, and since then I have helped my friends go wireless with no problems!

  • "Configured fine on one machine, but then not at all on another... OK performance, but some trouble."
    on by infinigral

Pros Easy to configure when the driver works on your computer, small, convenient package, reasonable range.

Cons Could not get it to work on a standard Dell Insperion (2 GHz, 512MB, WinXP Home SP2), won't stay connected on some networks (details below)

Summary If you have a single access point network, not trying to move too far away from your access point, and don't mind occassional disconnects - then this device will work for you.

I ran into trouble when I was between two access points. The device kept trying to connect to the weaker of the two even after it switched over to the one with a stronger signal. This constant swapping between which access point to communicate with rendered the device virtually inoperable. Couldn't get any pages to load. Pinging both access points was possible, although inconsistant on return times, and quite a few timeouts.

When I tried installing this device on the above mentioned Dell machine, I ran into quite a few problems trying to get it to configure. I attempted tech support (they were actually very helpful), but could not come to a resolution.

So there is my experience with this device.

I would suggest looking at the D-Link DWL-G122. I have had better luck with this product. Better range, and it can pick an access point and stick with it.

  • "Simple Quick install."
    on

Pros Easy install...simply run install disk plug in adapter and reboot. Up an running in seconds.

    Cons None

  • "Very good WI-FI function."
    on by lewisclaim

Pros Good software and documentation easy to set up.

Cons Cheap, Cheap, Cheap base and apperance

Summary Would have rated as a 10 if were not for the almost unbelievably cheap base and overall appearance. Reminds me of the stuff that used to come out of Japan in the early 1950's.
