Manufacturer description

The D-Link DCF-650W is a wireless Compact Flash Type II card that is IEEE 802.11b compliant. The DCF-650W provides a solution to connect PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) such as the Compaq iPAQ and Casio 125 to an existing IEEE 802.11b wireless network. The DCF-650W utilizes Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS). The DCF-650W is targeted at users with PDAs that want the convenience offered by connecting to an existing wireless local area network without wires. The DCF-650W will operate in either Ad-Hoc mode (networking without an Access Point) or in Infrastructure mode (networking using an Access Point). The DCF-650W will transmit data at 11, 5.5, 2, and 1 Mbps. Also, the DCF-650W provides an "Auto Fall-Back" feature to automatically adjust the speed of the adapter depending on the distance from the Access Point. In an open environment, the DCF-650W with its built-in antenna has a range of up to 460 feet (11.68 m) at 11Mbps and up to 1,311 feet (33.30 m) at 1Mbps. The DCF-650W requires a Compact Flash Type II interface (available in most current PDAs).

couldn't be better

Pros:

Cons:

Review: This entire product's features work flawlessly on all spectrums. WEP is great as well as distance. First time out-of-the-box install was a snap. Support from this company has been outstanding. I had a setup question with the AP which was answered courteously and quickly.

I've had no problems at all, I love it!

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I had absolutely no problems using this card. I installed the software, plugged it in, and I was surfing the net! My wireless access point is on order so I have only been able to use other peoples networks. The software is very intuitive with a nice layout, it includes a nice ping ustility to ensure network connectivity. Great value for a great price!

Unbelivable, works great

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Installation was a breeze on my ipaq, works great, autosensing ability for EESIDs and channels is awesome to say the least. I am using a dlink 900AP access point. I like this card better than the pcmcia linksys, dlink and intel cards i have used in the past for my notebook. It autodetects the best signal and is fully capable of autoswitching between access points to obtain the best signal. Battery life degraded on my ipaq, roughly about half, planning on buying the battery cf expansion sleeve.

Could not get it to work

Pros:

Cons:

Review: More than an hour with tech support determined they needed level 3 support or some such. Asked when they should call; I said after 6pm EST. They called 2 1/2 weeks later in the afternoon (I was at work) just 2 days before I had to return. So I returned instead of jepordizing getting my money back.

works well for me with my casio e-200

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I use one of these cards in combination with my casio e-200 on my 802.11b home network. Overall its been working great. I can sit on my sofa and check my e-mail. I use 128bit encr. and the card works great with that too. I can do nothing but recommend it.

find another manufacturer

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I had been dying for one of these all year and bought this as soon as it was available a few months ago. Nothing but problems so far. Poor to non-existing support on their web site. Horrible documentation. If you can use a CF type I card, look at the Symbol. Also, a number of other type II,s are showing up now.

There are better options available...

Pros:

Cons:

Review: albeit more expensive. Best and worst thing about it are that it is the cheapest available (right now anyway). Quite a bit larger than most others and I am still trying to get it to work with my Linksys WAP (I have lots of experience setting these things up but this one is starting to baffle me).
