Pros good connection and signal
Cons software was worthless, tech support worse...
Summary I decided on this card and the corresponding router based on the CNET article about setting up your home wireless system. Found both for reasonable price. Router hooked up, works great, fairly easy to use/change settings. No ill effects on my desk top.
followed the install instructions for the card, when it came time to shut off the laptop, insert the card, and reboot...the card was either never recognized or drivers could not be installed or read off the install cd. Tech support was possibly the worst I've encountered including the 1st level tech I talked too not knowing what the product was initially, breathing heavily into his head set, and audibly belching under his breath. Not to mention having no idea what was wrong.
Second level support was more professional but no more helpful in figuring out why the drivers either didn't exist or wouldn't install.
Solution, internet search, found similar problems. Downloaded BOINGO software....works like a champ! So what should have taken 30 minutes tops, took two nights of tinkering and frustration.
I would recomend the card and router, but don't even bother with Dlink's software.
Pros I bought the DWL-G650 in a bundle with the DI-624 wireless router at a great price, and the router worked well enough on a direct (wired) connection. The cardbus adapter was another story.
Cons After installation, the adapter showed connection to the DI-624 router, but never maintained maximum connection rates for more than a few minutes, and this was with the router and adapter sitting side-by-side. Of much greater concern, my laptop's Internet
Pros The DWL-G650 was great while it worked. Easy set-up, solid connections, fast transfer. I often stayed logged in to work through a VPN all day long. Superb customer service. They seem to get a lot of practice.
Cons I tossed in the towel after returning four different cards with two different hardware revisions. The first two would lose connection but regained it with light pressure on the antenna. The third was DOA. The fourth worked great for about a week until
Pros Easy to set up - good step by step guide. When it works, it's OK.
Cons Drops connection when WEP is enabled. And now the biggie! It totally freezes my system. I can't even bring up the task manager to quit the process. When it's frozen and I remove the card, the machine reboots. It might be an XP problem, but it does cl
Pros With the new firmware just released this week by D-Link I've been able to get 45Mbps actual throughput. I used QCheck to test my speeds. I also have no 11b clients around or in use, so I locked down the DI-624 (router/AP) into "Turbo" (aka 108Mbps) mode a
Cons none. the Firmware download is FREE!
