Pros Much greater range with MIMO
Cons Price was a little bit too high
Summary I was worried about spending $330 for the new MIMO Router with SRX by Linksys(WRT54GX) and the WPC54X Wireless-G notebook adapter, but I was very impressed with the performance of both of these units. I have a constant speed of 108 Mbps using the wireless-G notebook adapter (WPC54GX). I have walked on a straight line down my street for approximately 2.5 to 3 blocks and was still able to connect, whereas before, I could not go any further than half a block. The signal became weaker at about two blocks but worked. I did not like the required CD installation. Like everything else, you must pay a litle more for new technology if you are willing to pay for it and must the latest. Is the price worth the gain in speed of a few seconds? It is up to you and your pocket! We all get so spoiled and have become impatient or intolerant with yesterday's high tech items. I know that I have!
Pros None found
Cons Poor service
Summary Purchased this adapter along with the newer wrt54gx2 router. Router was fairly simple to set up, however I could not get this adapter to connect to the internet, would connect to my home network though!? No luck finding any support on linksys website. When it did work, transmission was interruptible even at close distances. Found that my old linksys 54g adapter worked 10 times faster than this card. Go figure!?
"Good almost great"on by swoad
Pros range range range , oh yeah and speed
Cons battery drain
Summary The WPC54GX works great with existing non-srx routers, i have a WRT54G router and a large home with my WUSB54G adapter which got a bad signal, and a whopping 1 meg data transfer, with the srx not to mention MIMO card i get full signal of 54 megs , this is WITHOUT a srx router, immagine haveing a ful SRX MIMO system upto 108 megs and increased range. Very good upgrade, worth the 65$ paid. The only thing is it does drain the battery faster then if you had no card at all but this is typical and a minor CON.
Pros Very Good Signal at longe ranges
Cons Nothing yet
Summary Just got this and installed to replace DLink DWL-G650 108mbit "Super G" card and the difference is night and day. The range on this thing is simply amazing. I live in apt complex so we pick up quite a few networks. Before with the Dlink they were generally weak, usually 1-2 bars on the Winxp wireless signal meter. Now with the new card we pick up networks in different buildings across the parking lot with 4-5 bars "Good" signal. Range is greatly improved even with non-Mimo/SRX networks.
Also noticed that this new card fits much more snugly than the old one. It would wiggle a bit and occasionally loose connection and lock up the pc if you bumped it. The linksys is totally snug and hasn't dislodged yet.
Haven't had a chance to test throughput since my desktop is having authentication issues with the router(Linksys WRT54GX) I'll update with throughput results when I get a chance, I expect them to correspond with the increased singal.
Pros (Windows) Works ok anly after driver download
Cons (Linux) No driver at all !
Summary Linksys tech support are not in a hurry to provide Linux driver !
Today such situation is more acceptable
