Pros 54mbps, Good signal strength
Cons MONTHS OF FRUSTRATION: Stops Receiving Important ARP Broadcasts, Can Be a Pain to Set Up, Windows Sometimes Stops Recognizing Device
Summary When using this device along with the WL-500g (and probably other routers, because other devices don't have this problem with it), it stops receiving ARP broadcasts (at least--maybe all broadcast frames) after a while. That means computers on the network will be unable to contact it because it won't receive or reply to ARP broadcasts. Ouch. The only solution to this is to have it very regularly attempt to access a nonexistent IP address and then remove the invalid entry for that IP address from the computer's ARP tables and repeat. It can broadcast no problem, and that way other LAN machines will learn of its own MAC address and be able to contact it, but every once in a while it stops receiving ARP broadcasts. This does not commonly affect internet use, but it isolates the computer from the LAN in an EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING way.
Other than that, this device is pretty good with good signal strength and speed, except that sometimes (after it freezes your computer), it will stop being recognized by Windows until you do a lot of fiddling.
I gave this product a 5 for months of personal frustration and because important functionality is unreliable, and that is simply unacceptable.
Pros excellent price and features like wpa. good support
Cons After a few months, 1 adapter would fail to be recognized by windows and would not power up. replacement unit often drops connections when transfer rates approach 80KB/s, rarely drops at around 40KB/s, and is reliable when used for web surfing and chat. I
Pros it works....
Cons when it feels like it, i can barely ever get it to turn on! or itll shut off sparaticly.. the range isnt that great either. no antenna jack to fix that problem. and hey, its microsoft.
Pros This product was very easy to set up. The "Microsoft Broadband Network Utility" is also very nice and easy to use. It automatically checks for software and firmware updates for you.
Cons Not the most feature rich wireless router.
Pros Best thing about the product is that it costs nothing compared to the competition. I understand it is available still for $40. Extremely easy to set up, don't have to tinker with the inside of your computer. Perfect for guys with limited knowledge of co
Cons Like I said in the pros I get 24mbps, I wish i was closer to the 54mbps.
