"Great little workhorse -- but dump the utility" on by PSP747

    Pros: Strong throughput, reliable

    Cons: Utility doesn't add much

Summary: This little dynamo has great throughput, and the cable gives you a lot of flexibility with a desktop. With the rebates that seem to be common, the price is great too.

However the utility adds nothing to the product and doesn't do anything useful that windows doesn't already do for you automatically.

The instructions direct you to install the CD first, then plug in the adapter. However, to load the driver without the useless and annoying utility, do just the opposite: plug in the adapter to the computer, then when it asks for the CD, insert it and the driver will load without the utility.

Review is not clear on which version of Windows supplies all the functionality of the manufacturer-supplied utility. I run Win 2K, and am seriously considering the Netgear USB appliance for my Dell Latitude C610.

do... NOT buy this piece of [CENSORED].... its great, untill you try to use your computer.. ANYTHING driving the processor to 100% will drop the connection.. i.e. games.. rendering. compiling. compressing... you know.. those things most people do all day, every day.

the really anoying thing, netgear wont even admit there is a problem, talking to them is like trying to find out which of your 5..10year old children put jam in the sterio... they just sit there looking stupid, denying anyone else has ever seen this happen b4.. but.. ask around in any tech geeks channel, and they will be happy to explain the problem in great detail...

boo sucks.. sort it out netgear
