"software messed up windows" on by donking!
Pros: did actually work, sort of
Cons: software messed up windows. had to reinstall system.
Summary: This card is very buggy and I highly do NOT recommend it. I got the wireless card for my R505TLK Sony Vaio, running W2K. It did work. But every time I plugged it in and it connected to the internet it would take about five minutes to connect to the wireless router and occupy all of my processor power during that time, making the computer effectively frozen. Even when I didn't have the card plugged in, when I was starting up my computer and it was negotiating network connections through a ethernet cable, it would get caught in this five minute loop. I think it was the drivers fro the card that did this. In the end, I could only fix the problem by entirely reinstalling windows.
I replaced the card with a Proxim Orinoco card and it has been great. Stronger signal. Works quickly and simply. -
"Rated '1' because zero isn't an option" on by neilparks
Pros: Can't find any
Cons: Doesn't work worth a cent!
Summary: Bought this piece of junk from Dell and have been trying for days to install on an Inspiron 8000. Software keeps throwing errors in MSVCRT.DLL. Linksys tech support put me through several install-uninstall-reinstalls and then blamed Microsoft.
Avoid this product at all costs!Updated
No thanks at all to the incompetent tech "support"(?) people at Linksys and Dell. I managed to modify the software to get it working without errors, and the card now works nicely for me.
However, that's just me. A non-technical user would never be able to do what I did.
Bottom Line: If you buy this product, don't buy it by mail order as I did. Buy it from a reliable local computer store and have them install the software for you. -
