"Trying to Force consumers to buy its more expensive suite"
0.5 starson by kasubPros: Cheap (until you find it won't work with Zone Alarm)
Cons: Incompatible with Zone Alarm
Summary: Like another reviewer indicated, I've been using Norton and Zone Alarm (free) side-by-side for years, and I've never had a problem. So, when it came time to renew my subscription, I thought it would be smart to go with the latest 2007 engine--WRONG!
1) Only after completing the purchasing process, which I also paid more money for the CD to be mailed to me,
2) Only after downloading the product
. . . That's when I found out that Norton 2007 is incompatible with Zone Alarm.
So, that means I either have to go back to the Norton site and purchase its firewall program, which is not as effective as Zone Alarm. Plus, I'd have to pay more money for the software since I didn't buy it as a renewal/combo suite.
This sort of business practice is exactly what drives me away from a product. So, I went to Zone Alarm and bought its suite.
The downside is that the full Zone Alarm suite requires more computer resources to run, making my computer run slower. I'm also out of $50 bucks for the waste of buying Norton.
On the other hand, I have a very secure machine now and couldn't be happier with the Zone Alarm suite.

I myself have been using both products, Norton (virus scan) and Zone Alarm (firewall) seamlessly for a couple of years now. I have used Norton in the corporate environment and felt good about it’s usefulness at that time. I started using the Zone Alarm product because I needed an inexpensive firewall product for home. Even with an upgrade from freeware, the Zone Alarm product is excellent.

One I attempted to use the Norton Internet Security suit to consolidate the two functions in one purchase. This was a huge mistake. The Norton product made my system 5 times slower. Even my new high-speed Internet seemed like dialup. I swore off Norton’s Internet Security at that time. I continue to run the virus only product along with Zone Alarm firewall.

Move forward to today. It’s time once again to upgrade Antivirus, spyware (webroot) and firewall. I do it all on the same day, sometime before they all expire. Today after installing Zone Alarms security suit and then attempting to install Norton 2007, I find that “Norton is not compatible with Zonealarm”. I feel totally ripped-off. I purchase two Norton Antivirus by mail and was completely unaware of Norton’s scurrilous new practice. There was no warnings fro either product beforehand but I really blame Norton for this one. They want us all to use their poorly performing hog of an internet security suit or nothing, it would seem. So I’m out the money for 3 copies of Norton antivirus because I will choose to use other products on my computer and never use Symantec/Norton again.

You can get a refund...I did. Go to the Symantec website (you may have to click on Symantec Store). Be sure that you have your order number available. If you made your purchase by credit card you can complete an online form and a refund will be posted to your credit card account for the amount of the purchase.
