    "Small Businesses Stay Away"

    by henry_cholakyan on July 31, 2009

Pros: I give SEP A++ for its management capabilities, its the best thing out there.

Cons: Failed to detect numerous keyloggers, trojans, and rootkits.

Summary: I started with SEP with theri Management Release1 (MR1) and terminated them at MR4MP2. I lived with them through all the hells it was giving me. I decided to be patient with them, in hopes that they update most virus definitions. After it failed to detect numberous rootkits, adwares, trojans, and keyloggers, that ESET online scanner detected. I finally gave up and swithed to ESET NOD32 Business Edition. Immediately after the switch, nearly 50% became my good friend, they all called to find out what I did to speed up their computers. It is true that ESET admin console is hard to configure, but ESET does things what your security software is suppose to do, which is to detect all malware out there. It does not surprise me that ESET has the best record on Virus Bulleting and the best record on AV comparatives not mention its awards for being the best proactive av detector. Sorry Symantec try harder, especially in these days where nearly all IT departments are shorthanded, no one has time deal with your bloatware that won't detect most of the malware. Try harder please, I really want to add to the revenue of American Company instead of ESET, a Slovanian based company.

Some other may argue and say that SEP is has application and device control and all that. I think its kind of useless in coporate environment if you want to reduces your helpdesk calls. On top of that Eset has the same features as well, with a lot less stress on system resources.

The only place SEP shines is on AV-TEST.org. However, when I look their statistical data, it all looks the same eveyday. AV-TEST.org also the tests for Pcmagazine, which is probably the reason PCMAG gave Editor's choice for SEP when it was just being released. The evidence is verty clear, AV-TEST.org is well sponsored by Symantec.

Bottom line .. Avoid Symantec Endpoint Protection. It fails to do what it is suppose to do, which is to detect malwares.
