"Essential upgrade or must buy if you don't have it"
Pros: can publish iWeb pages to non-.Mac site. Easy podcast creation and iWeb.
Cons: Lose some features when uploading to non-Mac site.
Summary: I got this product on Wednesday after immediately ordering it when the apple store came back online. Since then I have re-done my personal webpage in iWeb in 2 hours (to get the same look would have taken me 12 hours in GoLive) and can now create podcasts in one place instead of need several steps and hours in time. Plus you can publish to non-.Mac sites.
iPhoto speed is noticeably increased and has new options for ordering informaiton. Photocasting is nice way to share ever evolving phto galleries with friends and family (i.e. baby pictures) iMovie and iDVD are still great with new animation and widescreen themes.
However, iWeb and Garageband podcasting are MAJOR CHANGES. You can easily create gorgeous webpages. I do lots of HTML in GoLive and you can do things much faster and prettier in iWeb. You can publish to non-.Mac accounts but you will have to configure password protection manually, you also loose some of the cool AJAX based slideshow features, but not a deal breaker for me as I don't do major photogalleries outside of .Mac. You can try simpleviewer for easy flash gallery creation from iPhoto galleries (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051021061733229&query=simpleviewer)
For those that have GoLive etc, I have created a documen in iWeb as layout is really easy to do, then modified the resulting HTML files in GoLive for password protection and forms submission that aren't in iWeb yet for non-.Mac sites. Much easier than GoLive alone.
The garageband podcasting is amazing. It really does a good job of modulation your voice after using just the built in microphone on your mac. Also adjusts the volume of the background music so you voice stands out and easy insertion of photos.
Overall, really great. I like that you get most of iWeb's functionality with or without .Mac so you don't have to spend more money if you don't want to (I have a .Mac account plus 4 other webistes to manage so that is cool).
