"Well illuminated for low light places room for fader." on by DjHarley626
Pros: Have a good illumination that's very helpfull on low lights. The construction is designed to last for ever and you have enough room between the jog wheels and the fader. The 1/4 inch jacks help you to connect the mixer direct to the amplifier.
Cons: The Virtual Dj program is limited to just a few effects and samplers.
Summary: The Virtual Dj program is limited but if you upgrade your program to Pro the story is very different. This work horse is easy to use and easy to carry and bring an excellent sound to your party. Excellent choice on low budget (compare to Serato you have to expend more than $2000.00 on equipment and program) and you can do almost the same thing with only from $300.00 to $400.00

"Nice Overall, Despite Poor Pre's" on by argyx
Pros: Buttons and faders are acceptable, though nothing special.
16 of the buttons have LED back lighting.
Works well with both of my software packages; Virtual DJ 6 and Traktor 1.1.2.Cons: The pre-amps are low qualilty. I carry an outboard phono pre if I want to hookup one of my Technics 1210 M5G's. I also carry an outboard mic pre. Hercules needs to improve this area of the product.
I'm not a big fan of the Hercules jog wheels either.Summary: Overall this unit has been very dependable and is built well for the price point. I use it at a weekly bar gig and as a redundant controller at larger events. The size and weight are just right. The included case is handy, especially if you keep the foam packing for extra protection.
I wouldn't plan on using the phono inputs though. For digital vinyl, I use my Mackie d.2 Pro or NI's Audo 4DJ. Also, if you will be doing much talking over a mic I would bring another mixer or a seperate preamp. In such situations, I generally team the RMX up with a Denon DN-X500 and DN-HD2500. This provides redundancy while also giving plenty of flexibility.
My wish list:
Better pre-amps all around
Flatter and slightly wider jog wheels
Indents on pots
Optical x-fader like the Mackie d.2 :) -
"Good and beefy but software lacking." on by klebrchelp
Pros: quality of construction, usability
Cons: not all buttons illuminate, software is lacking
Summary: Out of the box I was blown away by the quality of construction as compaired to the MK II. Controls are nice and responsive. Even my son was impressed by the jog wheels. While the MK II was functional, it felt like a cheap plastic toy (HMMMM go figure) and one would be reluctant to carry it anywhere. The RMX on the other hand is stout, stylish, highly functional, and not an embarassment to be seen with.
The software is a clear weak point. It does work, but clearly is lacking in fx and sampling, which simply isn't there. So, unless you only want to blend music with some VERY basic fx. Expect to spend extra for a software upgrade. No surprise there.
Other than that, this thing looks and feels great. It generaly kicks ass.
