Pros Good Music, Nice Interface
"Just plain awful"on by rgor
Pros Offered some free songs
Cons Too many to note. Just It is pretty bad
Summary They treat you like a criminal from the get go. Exclusive Sony format. Songs are placed in an obscure directory. Copying songs is a nightmare. Creating cds is even worse. Playlists are awkward to use. Poor mp3 support. Copy protection from some songs and not others. Different rules for different songs. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Why did I even buy that Aquafresh toothpaste!! (It offered 3 free songs from sonicstage)
Pros I have nothing to say
Cons Don't try it unless you have a fast computer
Summary Since I like downloading music, I thought it would be fun to sign up for Sony's music store offering, plus, someone gave me a $10 Connect Cash card.
I have a three year old computer which can handle most things, EP, Itunes, most games etc. It fit the system requirements of Sony Connect and their interface, SonicStage. So, first I had to register my Connect Cash card with Sony, then, in order to use it, I had to download SonicStage. It took forever, was clunky, and basically turned my computer into a 386 dinosaur. Once on, my Connect Cash didn't work. Their site detailed a multi-step uninstall which after a great deal of my precious time, thankfully restored my computer to its former self.
I wrote to Sony about my problems and asked if I could redeem their Connect Cash card without using the horrible SonicStage. They said, "no."
Unless you have a nice fast new computer, I avoid Sony Connect.
"User-friendly, with an extensive catalog. Lacks ability to stream music to stereo."on by JohnGlenn
Pros User-friendly, with an extensive catalog. Great sound quality.
Cons Unlike iTunes which has Airport Express for streaming both proprietary and non-proprietary music, Connect lacks the ability to stream music to stereo. ATRAC files are not supported other streamers
Summary Sony Connect is user-friendly, with an extensive catalog of music and great sound quality for its supported ATRAC file format. Unlike iTunes which has Airport Express for streaming both proprietary and non-proprietary music to your stereo or powered speakers, Connect lacks the ability to stream music to stereo and its ATRAC files are not supported other streaming products. Sony offers a streaming product, but it’s only for its VAIO line of computers. If you own a non Sony computer, as I do, you are out of luck. What a downer!! Sony, can you hear me now! Give us a product that streams those precious songs we purchased from your music store or give us the option to use a third-party product.
