"Excellent sound"
Pros: Excellent sound, plenty of watts per channel. Seems very sturdy.
Cons: None that I can think of.
Summary: Some people complain about no audio over HDMI. Well, this receiver does not have Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD, so audio over HDMI is not necessary. The Optical output provides plenty of bandwidth for DTS and Dolby Digital. Audio over HDMI is only needed for high-bandwidth applications such as Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD.

I just hooked the 1609 up. I don't have a blu ray, just a regular player. What is the best sound setting for dvd,s, to enjoy great surround sound? I have 5.1 setup. Please help.
