Pros 6 HDMI Ports
Automated speaker set up
V.Aux input on front is handy
USB port for iPod on front is very nice
Manual fairly good
Cons Not clear how to utilize RCA inputs on back side
Summary This was a replacement for a much older (pre HDMI) Denon receiver. I had Monster cables strung all over the place behind my entertainment center with the previous unit. Now I have 1 HDMI cable from each device (Satellite box, Blue Ray and HD players) and one HDMI cable to my TV. Much cleaner configuration.
The automated speaker set up/balancing went very smoothly and I like the results. It took about 15 minutes to go through all the steps, so it wasn't that bad.
Although it was a bit confusing at first I was able to set up my Logitech universal remote to manage everything. I can now (with the press of a single button) select Blue Ray player, the (obsolete) HD player, my SAT box, or the Nintendo WII and all the setting are automatically switched. Very handy for my wife who gets frustrated with trying to manually configure things.
The only thing I couldn't figure out was how to use the RCA plugs on the back. I initially tried to connect the WII through one of those inputs but could not figure out how to have the system recognize them. So, I gave up and just connected it through the front, which works fine but is not as elegant or convenient. I unplug them when not in use just so they are not visible in front.
All in all I like the look and the operation of the unit. I had my previous Denon for 13 years, so I'm hoping this will have a similar life span.
Pros Sound - both music and movie
DLNA and Airplay
Internet radio, tons of stations
Lots of connections
Cons No support for Apple Lossless or high quality AAC
No HD upscale from DVD
Summary Don't understand posts regarding its poor mucis sound quality! I use it for stereo in a 2.1 setup. Used to have a Denon PMA 1500 amp, which is regarded high midrange and the 1912 actually gives me a better listening experience when fed with high quality digital input from my NAS server. Surely it hasn't got quite the same power as the PMA 1500, but enough for my setup. But it gives terrific clarity, probably due to the internal D/A converter instead of my "old" analog CD/AMP system.
Personally the lack of Wifi isn't an issue for me, as I find Wifi to restricted for my use when streaming HD movies anyway, but can I understand, if others find it a minus.
Also, as mentioned I really would like Apple Lossless support as I need both FLAC and Apple Lossless (or AAC) versions of the same CD if I wan't to be able to play it on both my iPhone and the Denon 1912.
This isn't a showstopper though and all in all I find it fantastic value for money and a very good all-round media receiver AND an excellent stereo AMP - specialty used in "direct" mode with all video components put to sleep to reduce noise.
Pros Great networking features & ability, great iPod integration, 2nd zone ability. Been looking for geer to access/play media on desktop in another room - AVR-1912 does the job best.
Cons No wifi,(installed WD Powerline network device-problem solved) poor video upscaling, problems getting unit's remote to control other equipment.
Summary Would highly recommend - most features at this price
Pros GREAT sound on movie, perfect!
Cons If you like listening to music, 1912 is NOT recommended. Very horrible on music quality. Subwoofer is very low.
Summary I tried the audyssey many times and the bass/sub sound is very bad, don't know why. All the speaker setup combinations I tried but still the music and subwoofer quality is so bad. The editor who reviewed it focused on Apple Airplay. I hope they also comment on music quality. Again, movie sound is great. My 6 yrs old Sony is better overall. I still own the 1912 but most likely return it before first month ends. Perhaps try STRDH820.
Pros Great sound, good HDMI out
Cons Front display and OSD could be better
Summary I got this item for <500.00, I consider that a good deal. My other receivers have been HK (I hate HK, poor customer support and crappy cheap hardware) and Onkyo (very good quality). So far like my denon, nice and simple.
