"great value when with the right TV" on by E Petey
Pros: HDMI switching & conversion, Denon quality sound
Cons: requires a TV with 480i HDMI input, initial setup is tricky
Summary: I think the reviewer was too harsh and puts this receiver in the wrong light. If you have a TV that can take 480i in it's HDMI input, this model is a value version of the AVR2807 (which was an editor's choice and top rated).
I replaced a 10yr old Pioneer with basic ProLogic and hooked this up to a KEF KHT 5005 speaker system.... it sounds great. Each soundfield makes a big difference and you will want to choose one appropriate to the input... but I am very impression with how much more open the sound is and the dynamic impact when watching movies.
If your TV can handle 480i in it's HDMI input, put this one on your shortlist. -

Cons: The 2 sided remote is a little confusing

"Constant Failures - Don't Buy Denon" on by TeamRL
Pros: multi-zone capabilities
Cons: Suffered two "chance failures" resulting in returning it to a regional repair shop. 3rd issue just occurred, time for the trash can. $900 down the drain, less than 3 years old.
Summary: For the money ($900 in Dec 2006) this has been a very disappointing product. I bought it because of the reviews, the brand name, and it's ability to handle the multiple zones in my house (2 in-door and 1 outside). The remote is not easy to use. The unit would not interface with my Samsung HD TV on volume control or displaying the zones and other ease of use features. These annoying issues I learned to live with.
However, as my 2 year warranty period approached its expiration, the unit stopped working. After shipping it to Austin for repairs at a regional repair shop, of which there are only 8 approved in the USA, (shipping costs were $70 (shipping plus a box to put it in)), I was told there was a chance failure of the Digital Audio Board, and it took them 5 weeks to get the parts and ship it back to me. 3 months later, out of the blue, the unit stopped working again. Back to Austin it went (and another $70, never throw away the box), this time there was a different chance failure of an integrated circuit, the two failures apparently unrelated. The tech guy said the IC failure was common in this unit because of faulty parts during manufacturing. Great. He estimated that if I had to pay for the 2 failures out of my pocket, each would cost approx $150, so $300 total.
Unfortunatly for me, the unit stopped working again today. It's the end of the line for this Denon in my house. Don't buy these products.
On a positive note, the regional center, Pyramid Audio, did a good job and I would recommend them. But, don't buy a Denon. -
Summary: Bon appareil très complet avec une plétorie de cnnexions audio et vidéo 2xHDMI IN et 1xHDMI OUT, 3xYUV IN et 1xYUV OUT, S-Vidéo et Composite RCA...
