"Instant Home Theatre Upgrade"
Pros: Fantastic sound reproduction. All the hookups you'll ever need. Versatile setup. Well made!
Cons: Not for the faint of heart, setup can be a little tricky. Pricey A/V component, but well worth it for anyone looking to make an instant upgrade to their home theatre.
Summary: The 3805 was actually my second Denon purchase. My first being the 2200 DVD player. One thing I can say about Denon is that they are without a doubt on the cutting edge of technology.
The 3805 is a remarkable piece of equipment. When I purchased it, I planned to pair it with a complete top of the line Polk speaker system. I realized the speakers were much to large in size for the area I was planning on using them and "settled" for the Bose Acoustimass 15 speaker set.
The sound reproduction was (is) absolutely incredible. I truly think you could hook-up homemade speakers to the 3805 and you would have great results.
The 3805 has an incredbible selection of hookups...optical, RCA, component video, composite video, S-Video and the Denon Link (proprietary). It can be adapted to fit 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 speaker formats. The major decoders are built in (DTS and Dolby) with multiple formats for both.
The only issue I had with the 3805 is the setup. It can be a little tricky setting which connections you want to go with the presets (TV, DVD, VDP etc.). Beyond that I had nothing but bliss watching movies and playing X-Box.
If you're in the market for an affordable high-end INSTANT upgrade to your existing home theatre, this is a no brainer.
